Hobart Champion 16 no weld, but has power at outlets

Quit welding but has power at outlets(125 v) blows F-2 fuse. After some trouble shooting/tested bridge rectifier and its bad, replaced it and still blows fuse. After more reading tested capacitor and its bad and have one on order. What else should I check, this the model that is CV capable.

You still have auxiliary power with fuse F2 blown? F2 is in the initial field flashing circuit and if blown you shouldn't have weld or auxiliary power output.

However, to answer your question, if flashing diode D1 is failed shorted (closed) this will cause F2 to blow once the generator started to produce exciter AC voltage output on leads #28 (#5 after fuse F1) and #29).

Do you have AC weld output only or DC too? If AC only then you have a bad connection or failed open diodes in the weld output rectifier CR2 or bad connection at the range selector switch.

If neither AC or DC weld output then you need to check for an open in weld output lead #70 from the main generator.

You can download the Owner's Manual here:

    http://www.hobartwelders.com/service/owners-manuals/

There should also be a schematic attached to the inside of the machine wrapper.

Tried to put serial # at Hobart website does not work # 197WR01943. Printed a schematic without serial # and the fuse blown is F-1.

SN should be two letters followed by six numbers.

If the bridge rectifier was bad that would explain a blown fuse F1.

Not enough hours in a day to mess with welder, this one is from my regular work. This machine is early 90's gray in color with CV. Will post update as time allows.

Installed new bridge rectifier, capacitor and new fuse today and she welds. Thank you advise and help.
