Re: The Official Craigslist Score Thread!

I was working in Ontario and saw a add for a drill press at home in bc for $60 in june. I called and talked to the seller when he said it was a big floor model I said I would take it. I sent him the money that day and told him I didn't know when I would be able to pick it up.
Went and got it on Saturday I'm pretty pleased with my purchase. Name: 20220813_194158.jpg

Re: The Official Craigslist Score Thread!

I've had my out for a piano for a while - I want the harp out of one for an art project. Last week, a mile from the house, someone put an upright out on the curb for bulk garbage pickup. A project to restore but they ran out of interest and decided to toss the whole thing - but listed it in case anyone wanted it.

These suckers are HEAAAAVY. I brought my tools hoping I could pull just the harp out and leave the rest. I guess I should have looked up exactly how these are put together. I had every string cut, every bolt and screw out of it, but it wouldn't budge - like it was glued to the sound board or something. I ran out of daylight and time so had to leave most of it behind .

I kept the top brace and the hammer assembly since they were loose already. Gotta be a use somewhere in them.

Isn't this the part where somebody pipes up and tells you that piano was worth $50k?

I was out coyote hunting in the middle of nowhere once and found the remains of an upright piano that somebody had burned. It had a huge cast iron piece that the string were attached to.

Yeah, that's the harp - has to be stout to hold all the string tension.

Picked this up today, 9x,42 Bridgeport, step pulley. Has X power feed and a Trax DRO on it. Everything appears nice and tight.Name: IMG_20220820_193324105.jpg

Picked up this compressor a few days ago for $150. It was only running while choked, cleaned carb, changed oil,
replaced air filter and spark plug now it's running pretty good. Pumps up and drops to idle like it should. I think it was a good deal.

Not that these tools really need it, but I've gotten into the habit of soaking old files in Evaporust. Might wanna get a gallon of it. I've been using the same tub of Evaporust for probably 3 years.

Re: The Official Craigslist Score Thread!

The big bastard file is right about perfect timing if and when I clean the cylinder decks. Square rat tail style file plus the regular rat tail and the other smaller bastard looking file are all American made files. Say made in USA on them and the teeth look good. I'll buy cheap files all day long.

The guy that sold me the Sears grinder wheel dresser tool for a buck said go ahead and grab another. He must of liked our conversation. I went back to the car to see what change I had un the little cubby in the dash and came back with a buck. He was going to let me take what ever tools trusting that I'd come back and pay him. I told him no, because if I don't have the change in my car to cover it I don't want to walk all the way back here to give you the tool back. I think he appreciated that and the fact that I walked all the way back with a buck of change to get the sears grinding wheel dresser. He said go ahead grab any other tool. So I picked the big chisel. I'll have to look into that rusty stuff you mentioned.

My eyes are soar atm. Did not sleep well last night and a friend of a neighbor was asking about my brothers cars. I shot the $hit with him for a moment then ran in the house fot the keys, started the 2005 camry, popped the hood and with it running then opened the trunck and saw the back seat/rack to his old Harley and lost it. Couldn't help but getting all choked up thinking about sending his stuff down the road. It's killing me but I need to make space for my stuff.

EvapoRust is honestly some great stuff.

I take it you lost your brother? If that's the case, my condolences. Definitely can jarring when you get an unexpected reminder. I still have a bunch of my dad's stuff to go through...
