I was working in Ontario and saw a add for a drill press at home in bc for $60 in june. I called and talked to the seller when he said it was a big floor model I said I would take it. I sent him the money that day and told him I didn't know when I would be able to pick it up.
Went and got it on Saturday I'm pretty pleased with my purchase.

I've had my out for a piano for a while - I want the harp out of one for an art project. Last week, a mile from the house, someone put an upright out on the curb for bulk garbage pickup. A project to restore but they ran out of interest and decided to toss the whole thing - but listed it in case anyone wanted it.
These suckers are HEAAAAVY. I brought my tools hoping I could pull just the harp out and leave the rest. I guess I should have looked up exactly how these are put together. I had every string cut, every bolt and screw out of it, but it wouldn't budge - like it was glued to the sound board or something. I ran out of daylight and time so had to leave most of it behind .
I kept the top brace and the hammer assembly since they were loose already. Gotta be a use somewhere in them.

I was out coyote hunting in the middle of nowhere once and found the remains of an upright piano that somebody had burned. It had a huge cast iron piece that the string were attached to.
Picked this up today, 9x,42 Bridgeport, step pulley. Has X power feed and a Trax DRO on it. Everything appears nice and tight.

. Should be a good machine for my used, it has a 4" and a 5" riser block stacked together on it now. I plan to keep the 4" block.

The dual hoist setup has proven to be invaluable once again. I could have adjusted the ram to center but the handle to drive the rack has a broken off bolt.

Picked up this compressor a few days ago for $150. It was only running while choked, cleaned carb, changed oil,
replaced air filter and spark plug now it's running pretty good. Pumps up and drops to idle like it should. I think it was a good deal.

Tried the Big 3 phase esab Transformer on the 460/3 of the Thermal.. Not enough juice to fire it off. It has to stay on my Rotary. Not all is lost, because my 3 phase 60i cutmaster, and Lorch Esab 220i is happy on the 460 power.. The Lorch will output 220 amps on 3 phase, and 200 on single phase power. It will used as needed.. Just gets it off the Rotary when I need a bit extra..
Found another machine that will run on the Thermal's 460/ 3 phase. On Marketplace, and had to look past the dirt.. Turned out it was super low hours, and great shape overall Hard to find this much quality for so little money .It would sit on marketplace forever but not with me around..Perfect match in input/output power. Some people would not look past the dirt. Not me, because I could tell it was a good one under it all... $350.00
Took a walk at the San Joaquin county fairgrounds fleemarket.
Got 4 files for $6.00. & The old Sears grinding wheel dresser and big chisel both for $1.00
Not that these tools really need it, but I've gotten into the habit of soaking old files in Evaporust. Might wanna get a gallon of it. I've been using the same tub of Evaporust for probably 3 years.
The big bastard file is right about perfect timing if and when I clean the cylinder decks. Square rat tail style file plus the regular rat tail and the other smaller bastard looking file are all American made files. Say made in USA on them and the teeth look good. I'll buy cheap files all day long.
The guy that sold me the Sears grinder wheel dresser tool for a buck said go ahead and grab another. He must of liked our conversation. I went back to the car to see what change I had un the little cubby in the dash and came back with a buck. He was going to let me take what ever tools trusting that I'd come back and pay him. I told him no, because if I don't have the change in my car to cover it I don't want to walk all the way back here to give you the tool back. I think he appreciated that and the fact that I walked all the way back with a buck of change to get the sears grinding wheel dresser. He said go ahead grab any other tool. So I picked the big chisel. I'll have to look into that rusty stuff you mentioned.
My eyes are soar atm. Did not sleep well last night and a friend of a neighbor was asking about my brothers cars. I shot the $hit with him for a moment then ran in the house fot the keys, started the 2005 camry, popped the hood and with it running then opened the trunck and saw the back seat/rack to his old Harley and lost it. Couldn't help but getting all choked up thinking about sending his stuff down the road. It's killing me but I need to make space for my stuff.

EvapoRust is honestly some great stuff.
I take it you lost your brother? If that's the case, my condolences. Definitely can jarring when you get an unexpected reminder. I still have a bunch of my dad's stuff to go through...
Finally found a metal lathe that can be made to work for me I think?.
Used on CL at a fair price
The earlier SB heavy was just to much coin and also in unknown condition, Recently passed on a 1940's war dept 12 x 40 ish, that needed quite a bit of work.
Someone crashed the cross slide tool holder into the 3 jaw hard enough to break the cross slide mount in half and broke the spindles drive which had already been brazed up as well then there was the worn ways, plus it was an 8 hour round trip to even check it out in person.
Don't have a lot of space and wanted something that could turn a flywheel if needed.
Been sitting for years and needs some work, wiring ,motor and clean up, service.
Was partially disassembled by the PO
1993 Taiwan HF 12" x 24" with induction hardened ways, GAP bed ( for short pieces has a 17 1/2" swing with gap bed removed), belt driven/ Gear head
1 9/16" spindle through hole
Still had Lots of cosmoline covering many parts.
I don't think it got a lot of calls because the non removed coating had combined with years of wood shop dust and made most of the unit look heavily rusted.
Got 2 motors a 6 spl compressor motor with the wrong non reversible rotation and runs at twice the speed that the missing stock motor should... I was able to reverse mount it and test the moving parts.
Also a Permanent Magnet DC 3 HP treadmill motor, which I plan to use a SCR variable output box + a bridge rectifier to Give variable speed.
If that does not work well enough Will be looking into a VFD/3 phase
Most of the stock goodies were included
6 inch 3 jaw chuck
8 inch four jaw,
10 inch faceplate
2 MT3 dead centers
1 live center
follow and steady rest
MT 3 1/2 drill chuck
some 5c collets
quick change tool post
original stands
This should be a big step up in ability from the damaged missing parts "clearance" HF 7 x 10 HF micro lathe. Happy as a pig in sh--
This, once functional should make it possible to turn a pin or 2 for the old worn Ford backhoe. I may be wrong but so far and even though this is a HF lathe it seems fairly well built and well preserved condition.
I have a MT3 test alignment shaft on the way, Hopefully once levelled and down on the concrete It will check out Ok.
FarmerSam has got me motivated with his successful axle rebuild.
