Actually Andy, an extra son, Did just that. Used an old drill press. He welded up a simple frame to hold it in position. It still turned too fast, he bought a $50.00 variable frequency drive on line. I felt it was a waste of money, but it did work.
An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
I have been surprised on what manufacturers used.
There companies making lineboring equipment. They change a high price for a drill press aka hand drill with a hand feed. The rest is pillow block ball bearing and a shaft.

WW needs to start a sticky for “tales of Willie B’s Extra Sons”
I for one would find it informative, entertaining and definitely subscribe.

Do I have to include the stupid things they do, or can I just brag about them.

Sorry, I fathered two sons. Both brought their friends. For a number of years 20 parking spaces weren't enough.
Now we are empty nesters. Local son NEVER hosts a gathering at his home. He calls, or texts his mother 30 minutes notice: "Lunchie, Kate, Me & Savanah, Zack, maybe Mary, Andy & Amanda, & Sean, together with three of the next generation are coming.
I don't know if it is my wonderful personality, Mrs. B's mothering, my toys & tools, or Nancy's cooking brings them back. I confess, I'm pleased to see them, especially very recently, they bring grandchildren. My first blood grandchild; Charlotte (Charleigh) has stolen my heart!

That's hard to believe. Who would GIVE AWAY coon pelts?!
Sent from my Lincoln Buzzbox...
If I were closer, I'd ask for them. They would make good, warm coats, hats and maybe a covering for a pistol case. Coon hides ('green') have lots of fat and take lots of work fleshing, I recall.
Then again, the ad might be some kind of trap post put on by PETA...
Below is another, less [in SF] 'controversial' and different offer.
I have wafers, huge hunks and lots of smaller wafer pieces (some w/ circuitry) I'd like to use to make some silicon bronze, someday. Also have man-made crystals of Silica too; it's transparent to UV.
I don't think it truly fits the definition of SCORE but the past week I bought two (2) mag drills. An BDS Maschinen MAB500 and an EUROBOR ECO 50T. Will be returning the first one to the seller as upon closer inspection it seems to have been dropped and has some damage I don't want to deal with (broken gearbox ear, cracked motor cover, bent handle, strange noise and some runout in the weldon chuck). But the EUROBOR is sweeeeeeeet! As it also allows for tapping (motor has FWD and RWD, unlike the BDS) and it is a much newer unit.
Even being both rated to 50mm I have the feeling the BDS is a much more solid unit (a lot heavier and bigger overall), proudly made in Germany but I don't want to gamble with a damaged unit (it was also more expensive, 800€). All in all I got the EUROBOR for 600€ (less than half of what it costs new, seen online for about 1500€). The brand is from Holand but might be made somwhere else.
Now thinkint about making a stand for it to double as heavy duty drill press.
Here’s a stand I made for my Hougen to give you inspiration. I’m sure you will be able to come up with something more suitable for your needs. ...
I must confess I saved the pictures of your stand to my computer many moons ago!!!
And I have been looking for a broken beefy and cheap (broken) drill press since then. But no luck! The only available models are rhe small benchtop models which are too light duty. And even those are expensive!!
I jus boughta well used drill press vise and I will build something arround it.
