    Egypt Machinist looking for work

I know there probably is not much hope for that to happen from this forum but why not give it a go? He is one of those one man bands with the image saying it all.

    Looks pretty interesting to me.

I know a Romanian fella here locally who's nothing short of a genius. He can build anything electronic and fix anything mechanical.

Unfortunately, he blew his right hand off booby trapping his house because somebody broke in a couple times. He cut a deal with the prosecutors office. They wanted to put him in prison for it.

That's wasn't so genius of him

Assuming you mean my avatar, thank you. That was a selfie before selfies were invented. Kind of like the phone answering machine reply I recorded with the kids one night. Kids bickering in the background, I smack one, tell the other to stop stealing my beer. Tell the caller to call back some other time as I was busy (sound of beating kids and wailing in the background). Damned if my wife didn't delete that. But life was good for a couple days. No nuisance calls.

Is it just me or are several things in that image disturbing to anyone else:
His coveralls carry a Toyota logo
He's standing on the wrong side of the lathe
All those chips and no work piece in the lathe or milling machine
The carriage is dangerously close to the chuck
The chuck is closed all the way
Neither tool in the QCTP is facing the work.
Way too much swarf on the floor.

I would not label any of these issues as: disturbing. That however is my opinion.

Maybe "disturbing" is a bit strong.

But, if I was job hunting, I wouldn't use a photo that looks like it was staged by someone who doesn't understand what it takes to run a machine shop. To me, that photo claims, "Look at my cool stuff!"

If I built the shot; something would be turning on the lathe, chips blurred, camera 3/4 over his shoulder with safety goggles noticeable and a hand on the crossfeed. That would say a whole lot more to a potential employer than the image above.

    Roy,

The boys and I staged that answering machine recording. The kids played it well. Reminds me of the Jonathan Winters routine about doing answering machine tapes. Said he would answer his phone "Jonathan Winters? He ain't here. He dead!"

Sounds like it is just you to me. You could put about an 8" piece in that chuck the way it sits. You forget to mention the 4 way tool post.

He is not looking for work as I stated. People who he has done work for are looking to get him recognition. They say he is a genius and always puts something unasked for into his works.
I have no way to validate the story but sometime back it might have been 85 he modified a Land Cruiser differential and Toyota ended up using it. That may explain the coveralls.
Hell I would wear a "Everyone remain calm and let Dennis handle it." shirt if it was free.

I always thought that person was a photo of Vicegrip! Unless he is your twin brother I thought he had an avitar with a guy that looked a lot like you. At least I will not be confused after this episode of Soap!

I am going to try and get the guy to post up some of his works here. I think his English is good.

Eastern Europe has some nasty machinists so I don't doubt the Romanian guy. My favorite youtube guy is from the Ukraine.

I like his attitude. I don't know what goes on in Romania, but some of those countries, just don't tolerate theives, etc. It maybe what he was taught to do back home. It sounds like the wrong persons hand got blown off, thats all. Some of those countries cut the theives hand or finger off, when they steal. I can't argue w/ there ways. They don't have the problems we do. Speaking of Romanians, in the early 90s, a classmate of mine worked as a machinest. The company he worked for, hired a romanian father and son team that traveled the world. What the romanian pair did was, they regrind the ways on lathes. they take a lathe that has worn ways, and true them up. They do it by hand. The way it was breifly described to me was, they start w/ getting one surface true, and run indicators off it to the others, I guess similiar to what you do on a granite surface plate, probabaly w/ some custom bases. But anyway, it takes the two like all week to do a lathe, the price is darn near approaching the point of considering buying a new lathe, i was told. It's kind of a dyeing art, not to many do this.

I would love to have heard that. It had to be hilarious.
Glad you met your goal with the avatar.

Is that Hagg Taher? He's kinda well known in the 4x4 rally world for his work. Has the work dried up in Egypt? Shop looks fine to me.

Yes, that is him. I misspoke at first. He is not looking for work (but of course he is) there is just a movement around him by his customers to try to get him recognized. Like any place else his ideas get stolen. Probably by Toyota even.
