I think it's great rod. I just started using it and very nice. I have always used McKay, but that is very hard to get now. How good of a deal?

their atom arc is a great rod we use it all the time and it gives us very few problems now if you said Excalibur by Lincoln i would say run far far away that wire is prone to porosity

 

i got a deal @ $60 a can never opened
and i dont think too highly of the excaliber either
but the lincoln hr is pretty good

Ran 5 or 10 lbs of 1/8" atom arc a week ago for the first time. Welding 2" threaded collars to 6" pipe. Crappy conditions, Unfamiliar machine, etc, but I liked it fine. Didn't really try much out of position though.

 

I too registered and was called by a rep a couple of weeks ago, and was told I would be sent a sample. Their credibility is on trial.

 

My distributor had a bunch of 1\8 on sale and i really liked it,ordered in 3\16- also ran very well,both of them liked to be cooked for a while,i have had no problems with 1/4 excalibur as long as it is cooked up well in my oven.the atom arc i find is very controllable.different welders like different rods,i have 2 sae 400 s

 

The sample isnt on their site that I can find any more....

That being said, I want to try the Atom Arc, I dont like Radnor 7018, and Im partial to Lincoln Excaliber H4R.... But my shop is a little cheap..

 

Esab Atom Arc 7018 is a very good rod...trusted for x-ray welds on pipe all the time, if you keep em dry of course.

 

ya i'm looking for alternative to the excaliber not happy with it lately it just doesnt run the same as it used too and it spatters too much

 

i just opened a keg of the atom arc this weekend on a refinery job and it runs great! the first rod i burned acted goofy but the rod was cold once it was in the oven a half hour it was like butter. had been using excaliber and it was running well but the atom arc IS nice!
Now who likes MUREX now that is my favorite!

I'd almost swear ESAB doesn't want their products to sell. I like Atom Arc 7018 though.

A month and a week ago I was promised a sample, ESAB's credibility has been demonstrated. The sample arrived today, now I will begin to cobble up a rod dryer.

 

I got mine the other day.
tried a couple cold from the pack and seemed smooth. a little bubbly at he start.
never tried the hot ones yet.

looks good to me, better than some imports

 

We normally use the esab atom arc rods at work, but someone ordered hobart rods and compared to the esab, they suck. splatter and undercut tough to remove slag! The esab atom arcs produce nice clean welds and if your heat and travel speed are just right, the slag will be falling off as you weld!

 

i ran about 1/2 the 1# package... ..ran ok, i didnt have it dialed in because the slag came off with difficulty..also the hardest restirke i ever saw..had to rub the tip on a file to get the slag off enough to restrike..they really should send me ten pounds more so i can get it right and see how good it is.....

 

I think these rods are the best thing to happen to stick welding.

Don't use the Atom Arc, but have ran PALLETS of OK 55.00

It is all I stock for 3/32", 1/8", and 5/32"

The 3/16" is E7024 Lincoln Jetweld 1 but using THAT isn't "Work"... It's FUN.

 

ESAB's 7018 Atomic Arcs are sweet. Yesterday, acquired a free promotional can of 1" x 6-1/2 ft 7018s from our LWS. Heavy Work. Now, to source a 1000A stinger and a monster CC source and then make some smoke.

 

Just cooked through half of a 50 pound can of 1/8" 7018 atomic arc doing repairs at work, ran just like Lincoln 7018.

 

Esab doesn't make anything easy. They have some very good products but trying to navigate their website and figure out part numbers is a nightmare. They use different part numbers for different countries and you never if the part number is correct or not. Victor isn't much better. You have a part number or description and want to look up what it is and they don't even show a picture. Now that Esab bought Victor, it's just going to get worse.
