My bead tests for flat and horizontal today.
    Flat:

    Horizontal:

Horizontal could have been better. I think I need to speed up a bit for it.

great. i can understand that. we'll save the acrobatics for another time. weld the next one on the rustiest plate you can find.

Well, there's a reason I'm going through school. I know that welding on a nice clean plate is night and day compared to what some of you guys have done and I totally respect where you are and have been. My goal is to get there one day myself, even if it means lying down in muddy water.

Here in the North West we weld in the rain all the time. Just love having rain run down my collar all day!

Well, I'm no stranger to getting dirty or wet. In my previous military life I've endured 36 hour boardings, crawled over stacks of dead fish, through nasty bilges and had ship's sewage systems discharge on me on fishing boats, cargo ships and tankers looking for a particular white substance the government doesn't like too much. Not to mention being soaked to the bone trying to get to some of those boats.

I think the worst task I ever had to do, was when I was an apprentice. Installing conveyors in an operational can plant. I had to run new rubber belting for a conveyor below floor level. This pit was about half full of grease and oil. 2 or 3 times I had to dip my head under cross beams in the pit, itís one thing to hold your breath for going under water, but under grease and oil!
