Smoking in the structural shop

And to prove I can be just as big a self righteous a$$ hat as any non-smoker (or inconsiderate smoker for that matter).

Hmmm, self righteous a$$hat (not sure what that is, but ok) maybe I should try that approach. Remember now, Monday we're going to ask people to be respectful. The superintendent said "I know but this guy smokes". I couldn't believe what he said. It's ok to disregard the law because this particular guy does it. That's the way it came across to me. This whole thing has become so ridiculous it hard to believe. The fact of the matter is we shouldn't even be having this conversation. I just didn't want the cig smoke in my area and I shouldn't have to leave my area so some a$$hat (whatever that is) can smoke in it.

Since I stepped up and said something about the smoke, I have been moved to another area. It's ok to visit, but I don't want to live there.

Fact: The city says no smoking in the workplace.
Doesn't that make banning smoking in the shop a moral imperative? Jus sayin . . . smile

If you're calling big blazin bomber a cigar. I like it. Then walk right up next to the GM and the shop superintendent puffing on that disgusting thing while at the safety meeting to discuss smoking in the shop and need to be respectful about it. I could do that.

then wash the nasty taste out of my mouth with the longneck. I like that more but when I quit smoking I inadvertently quit drinking too because I never had a beer when I didn't have a cigarette in the other hand. They went hand in hand with me. I still like the idea though!

Just ask at the safety meeting if it is possible to drink on the job. Don't see how they can not say no sense both are against the rules.

Apparently only drinking at work is against the rules. Smoking in the workplace is against the LAW. There really is no argument here.

When I was Facilities Mgr the smokers in the plant requested a "smoking area" inside the building because of cold winters. I installed a pre-fab enclosure on an outside wall so the room could be vented outside using a ceiling fan. After a few weeks I was presented a grievance by the union. The smokers were complaining the room was too smokey!

My kids are nearly speechless from this description...except saying they should go outside and smoke or just die from smoking.

Lot of hillary voters here, thought this place was different, to each there own, less gov. Strong survive, asked 9 people (smokers) this weekend at a party if anybody ever said anything to them smoking out side a building or in a bar (it's been illegal since 07) they said never, so I call bs on the people that say they confront people/or say anything, I live in a town of 6 million people I'm sure somebody would have said something, clean air act in illinois was signed by a gov that told people to take public transportation in a non ventilated train station (enclosed)with 20 trains idling on the tracks all day,and voted for health care,

Exactly my point a totalian (sic) government telling people what is right or wrong, I don't smoke but if you walk into my shop with out a cig in your mouth they'll treat you the same as a smoker no different, I think 3 of are govenors have been in prision, and that's my point one way thinking I'll protect all of you vote for me, I know what's best for you, you dont,I'll give you health care, safe passage, look back at all of the one way posts my way or the highway (smokers bad) tell me it doesn't sound just like the gun grabbers , and I'll still say bs on anybody that says anything,I got 24 stitches in my head helping a citizen, only because nobody stepped up and said I was helping the victim, so the coppers clubbed me, everybody's a tough guy til there called upon

While I can certainly sympathize with the concerns of non-smokers in the work place I think what's getting over looked here is that "no smoking in the work place laws" (or bars, resturants, etc.) is an improper use of government. I know they get referred to as "public" places but they're really "private" property. I don't care how noble (or worse yet altruistic) your reason for backing laws like this are it sets a bad precedent that leads to a lot of other abuses of "individual rights".
