I know they get referred to as "public" places but they're really "private" property. I don't care how noble (or worse yet altruistic) your reason for backing laws like this are it sets a bad precedent that leads to a lot of other abuses of "individual rights".
    +1 ^^

It's a slippery slope indeed when the gvt starts telling you what you can and cannot do (reasonably speaking of course) on your own property. Opens up a Pandora's box of things that never usually end for good.

    IMHO of course

Re: Smoking in the structural shop

Ive helped smoke at least one pack of cigs since this thread started and Im not proud of it. I dont think the op cares about smokers IMO but he is being intimidated by a smoker. The problem I see here is not the smoke ; its the as$hat involved. I agree with HT2-4956 about not striking first but someone blowing smoke in anothers face is queer and IMO struck first.

Re: Smoking in the structural shop

    The meeting:
For those of you who smoke, please try not to blow smoke in the face of those who don't. Let's go back to work.

The shop superintendent is also a youth pastor or something in his church. I even went to his church a couple times over the summer. Now when you think you can pick and choose which laws you want to abide by, you are no different than anyone else who doesn't obey the law. Prisons are full of that type. I know that's extreme, nonetheless the law is the law. If you don't like it, get it changed.

I agree that the shop is not public property.
I do not like government overreach.
However, it has been law for some time now, no smoking in the work place. No more smoking sections in a restaurant. no smoking as a law means just that. You don't get to decide whether or not you're going obey it.
What if. . . Something happened and the cause was determined to be careless smoking. What do you think the insureance company would say.
How about "I'm sorry about your loss, but, the damage occurred during to the commission of a crime. Therefore you are not covered". Let's hope no one got hurt or worse.
    Make sense?

Now for this phrase a$$hat. Is this a twist on the phrase a$$hole so the computer word recognition program doesn't kick it out? Until this forum, I never heard the phrase before. I know, I need to get out more.

I guess one poster seemed to think there were a bunch of Hillary supporters around here.

Sounds like he's never read the political thread before

Beat the guy up for being a dlck in front of his wife and kids in his own driveway and call it a day. you are dealing with a idiot in my opinion, smoking has nothing to do with it.

Welder Mike is a smoker. Welder Mike is a gentleman. He takes his cigarette where it doesn't offend. He has no desire to offend. The act of intentionally forcing smoking on others isn't a behavior of smokers, it's a behavior of bullies. Bullying is illegal, and grounds to fire someone.

post #110 Jerry. I didn't want to double post it. The attention this got from management is laughable. Last spring the GM said a few words about smoking in the shop. He reminded us that the city says no smoking at all. He was tired of seeing the cig butts all over the floor.

That smoke looks like a roll your own of some kind.

Ok so I googled the phrase asshat. Checked on a couple sites.
    My it is descriptive.

Quite a few years ago I had a similar problem......was being bullied by a coworker. I told him several times, if front of supervisors, to knock it off, and explained to him what was likely to happen if he did not...............A few days later he started in on me again in the break room in front of about 20 other people, including supervisors, I warned him several times.............he ended up being transported to town in an ambulance. I immediately went to the shop and started packing my gear and my boss showed up and asked what I was doing, I told him I was packing my gear and he asked why. I told him "you were there, you saw what happened", he said "I didn't see anything, neither did anyone else, go back to work!".................nearly 39 years later and I am still good friends with the individual and we laugh about it occassionally and he still swears that he recalls absolutely nothing, except waking up in the emergency room...................I only hit him once.

Of course, if you did that now, ppl would be offended, because that's hateful and bigoted.

I'm sure someone would go viral on Twitter about it too
