Just thought I'd make sure you guys were aware of this spool gun. I put "secret" in the title, as it seems hardly anybody knows about them.
Great for somebody on a serious budget.
It's from Real Gear, model 102532. It's a fairly lightweight, Made in China kinda thing...but seems to do the job well.
I know you can get them thru most Praxair and GTS-Welco locations for about $99. Probably other locations as well.

They are basically a Lincoln knockoff. If you have a Lincoln based machine that can run a spool gun...these will work.
They use Lincoln consumables as well.

I've attached a couple pics if you haven't seen one.
The pic with the ends...the end my finger is touching is the Real Gear unit, the one next to it is the Lincoln.

No. The only welder Real Gear has is a knockoff of a Lincoln 140 and that's what this spoolgun is for.

On that same note...they also have a crazy cheap replacement mig gun for their 140 welder that also fits the Lincoln machines. My buddy uses one on his Lincoln 140.
The complete gun sells for less than $60!

Thanks for posting. The spool gun for my Lincoln 181i was almost $300 and looks cheesier than the Real Gear.

The back end looks a tad different.

It's not a 30A, but it works fine. Not certain how many times I can drop it tho.

this isn't a secret

Obviously, hence the "quotes" around the word secret.
On the other hand.... I have YET to have a retail customer know anything about these. I sell them all the time once I show it to someone.
Bottom line, it's certainly not a widely known piece of equipment...so I figured sure I'd let people know that such a thing exists.

I ordered an identical one ($99.99) with the Miller end on it about a week ago and it is set to arrive tomorrow. I'll be lopping off the Miller end and fitting a euro end to it so it can go on my soon to be pimped out HF 170amp mig welder.

Mine arrived early! Here it is, with the Miller end.

Are there any cheapo's that I can hook up to my commander? Or LN-25?

ya plug it in. buy the one with the lincoln back end. buy a thermal arc 8pin connector and find your 4 wires. easy peasy

I bought a Eastwood TIG 175 that came with this spool gun. I would like to know where I can get drive rollers for it for .030 wire. My Eastwood 175 seems to run a better bead with Lincoln 4043 .030. Trying to run the .030 wire caused the drive roller to bottom out on the idler roller so I removed the drive roll and sanded down the O.D. a bit and is feeding the .030 ok now. But, I want to find a source for drive rollers for the "secret" spool gun.

Being a little POed at Praxair for shutting down a store near the Airport I use a lot. I looked on ebay and noticed that the seller who came up with a good price ($94.XX) was where I was for work that week, Scranton, PA. I drove over and got mine for $99 including tax, since I will-called it, no shipping.:)

To hook up the $99 Norstar to my Thermal Arc 181i, I connected the White Wire to #1, Red Wire to #4 for the 24V spool gun motor. To connect the switch, I connected the Yellow Wire to #2 and the Green Wire to #3. I used my Ohm meter to figure out what leads are the motor and what leads were the switch. Polarity of the switch does not matter, but you want the motor going the right direction. I would use my findings on wire color code as a starting point with your ohm meter, since Chinese will use what ever color wire they want if not given an Iron Clad, "We Won't Take or Pay For It" contract.
After checking out the Forum, I ordered the following from Mouser (including spares)

Mfr. #: 206434-1

Mouser #: 571-1-206062-4

Be careful with your wire speed settings. I converted a Lincoln Magnum SG 100 spoolgun to work with my 181. While it works just fine the wire speeds are much faster than the digital read out indicates. You may or may not have this problem.....just a heads up.
