Brand new tigger, Wanting to Start making money NOW!!! Rate my weld!!!!

Lets see If I can get this pic uploaded. As stated Just got a brand new tig machine, never welded before in my life and am planning on tackling some money making projects for racecars, mud trucks, tractors and i hope alot of aluminum things. Tell me where I should start!! I think my first project might be a trailer for a friend and a receiver hitch for my truck.

Let me keep you from getting torn apart. If you never welded before in your life, don't even think about making a trailer, trailer hitch, racecars, crawlers, etc...

You won't be good enough period. You'll endanger your life and others. You need to learn, this means practice, education, seat time, more practice, more practice more practice more practice, etc... until you are good enough to even start to think about welding on something that could hurt someone.

Make your next 100 or so posts pictures of welds, fillets, butt joints, flat, vertical, overhead, etc... and ask for and accept input and adjust appropriately to the criticism. We'll help you learn, but we aren't going to help you kill someone by welding on something critical when you don't know sh1t.

Well you should first start by learning how to weld, then once you have perfected your craft then you may begin charging for it.

Id recommend starting small, weld some coupons and go from there, you need to get to where you can make a nice bead with it first, not to mention a strong bead.

If it was as easy as buying a machine and hanging a sign with your name on it, everyone would do it.

Now we are Talking! I thought I was gonna get the responses I wanted from Sundown But he is smoother than you FAT BASTARD. Anyway Everything IN the first post was just so I could have a mental vision of some 40-60 year old man in front of there computer just fuming by what I had wrote, and just giddy to see what new smiley face they could learn how to use next. haha no harm meant I just enjoy watching this sometimes. Anyway I am no good welder just enjoy sticking metal together and know that I am not saving the world one weld at a time. But still enjoy the aluminum pictures and projects. IM NEW HERE

You need to learn. Let me make this really clear...you need to learn in a manner which won't kill anyone. In order to learn, you need to first accept that you don't know anything (on the upside this puts you in a better position than those who think they know it all and won't learn).

Will you make money right away? Absolutely not. No really, you won't make any...not only that, you'll lose money. If you can accept that, you're willing to learn, you pay attention to the advise given you and you don't kill or maim anyone (including yourself) then you may actually get really good at welding and be able to make some money at some point.

This craft isn't like working a cash register at Starbucks. You actually have to have a brain, talent, motivation, thick skin and dedication to get decent at welding...ohh, yeah, and you have to have time. Lots of time. You don't learn in a week, you don't learn in a month.

If you can put say 8 hours a day to welding for the next say 2-3 months minimum, then you may develop some skill. The next skill you need to develop is engineering (geometry, physics, trig, etc...) making money welding doesn't just involve slapping two pieces of steel together and making them stick. It involves designing, planning and executing.

If you get through all of that and you are pretty good at it, then you need to know business management skills. You don't make money without knowing how to calculate your profit based on your expenses. You also have to know what you can charge for a given bit of work. If you bid a job at 200% higher than everyone else, you'll never get it. If you bid it at 10% of everyone else, even if you do get it (not likely) you'll lose money on it.

Does all of this remove some of the confusion?

Not smooooother just that he did not take the time to say all he was thinking.

But no I wasn't fuming, just laughing at the ignorance of youth. but I'll toss you a pair of flaming blobs just for fun.

I know he, Mr. Sundowner... agreed with what I wrote, as I have been told that vary thing from too many Army boys. I think it is in their hand book.

Man you guys are brutal, but all true.
I would start with a good ole stick welder, learn the mig then go to the tig if needed.
This is like flying a F-16 before a kite.
Tig welding is a skill that takes years to master and be good enough to "sell" anything. Although tig will work for any welding, it is seldom the best choice for any kind of time or production work. Unless doing something that requires the tig over any other process.

Where should you start? Buy a used buzzbox off ebay and 500lbs of 6010 and 500 lbs of 7018.
When that is all gone come back.
    Wax on wax off.
