It's that time of year again... Holiday Spam

It looks like it's that time of year again. I've probably nuked at least a dozen or so in the last couple of hours. I'm sure Steve and Zap have as well. It will probably get worse as we get closer to Christmas. It usually does.

I'd like to thank those of you who take the time to report spamers. We Mods can't read every thread to try and root them out. Your help in bringing them to our attention helps.

Some are easy to spot, nonsensical posts, obvious links and so on. Others are a bit tougher to find as they hide their links in IMG links that you can't see unless you quote the spammer to see his exact text or those who bury links in text. Old dead threads brought back to life are often give a ways we might have a spammer, so keep an eye on original thread dates before simply replying to "help" with a problem. No real point to trying to help someone fix a machine that was posted 4 years ago, but brought back by some spammer with a hidden link. It's harder for us to spot the spammer when their post is now buried in 5 or 6 new replies to a long dead thread.

The hidden spam is usually the hardest to weed out. It's easy to spot the obvious ones like Apple I phones listed in the title. Those pop out to us as soon as we look at the most recent posts. It's the ones buried in real threads we need the most help with. Reporting those posts allows us to zero in on things we need to look more closely at to deal with these issues.

Thanks to all who take the time to help us keep this site clean. Doug.

But I love Spam! Grind it up, on a pizza with pineapple, and anchovies. It doesn't get any better than that.
