The old Hobarts were tough birds. Built to last.
I picked up this old Hobart. It is a 10 speed model, with high 280 to 450 amps. Any current has three different gear settings possible, so I imagine the arc voltage will differ depending on what part of the range you are using. The fine adjust plugs into the center of the selector dial and can be connected with an old style 2 wire 110V extension cord to serve as a remote. The motor is listed as 20 hp 3 phase.
The little bit I've used it the arc is sweet as a Lincoln motor drive.
Does anyone have a serial number chart for manufacturing date?

Looks like it is really good shape. I saw one going for $875 I think a couple days ago and it did not look as good as yours.

The year should be the two numbers before the W in the serial number.
Go to www.hobartwelders.com and ask them.
That is a motor \ generator type welder. You will need 3 phase 240 or 480 power to run the huge motor that turns the generator.

Nice machine! Not as efficient as a new inverter, but much more character.
