Yup, the office is all done and functional. I've been organizing my shop for the last month or so built a new fab table, and rearranged most of my equipment.

So I'm in good shape to start making money, and just in time too, work is starting to pour in

awesome work! just went through the whole thread.

Ive done about ten railing jobs so far in my spare time. I'd like to make it a more legitimate side business (I have a regular 40 hr job, not in the welding/fabricating industry.) this whole thread has really inspired me. I'm having a hard time because Im so detail oriented and I feel like these jobs are taking me waaaaay too long to do, but part of that is due to lack of tools and im sure a good table would speed things up as well. Im working on my first bent rail right now and im ready to pull my hair out. I bought the HF roller bender and the while the bend is correct the rails are corkscrewed due to being bent on 2 axis like you mentioned. I gave up on the first set I bent. the bottom rail of the second set is pretty flat, flat enough that it will have to work (my wife says Im nit picking and most people will never notice most things I worry about and burn time on.) The top rail however is twisted pretty bad towards the end and im having a heck of a time trying to straighten it.

How were you dealing with the twist? Should i just heat it up and work it out? Sorry if im hijacking but your work has really motivated me even more to grow my "business" Ive learned a lot just from reading through but I have at least 100 questions I could ask you. haha

Nice work, Phil! I look forward to the day that I get some some fancier ornamental jobs like that. That job with all the pickets being drilled and concreted stresses me out just looking at the pictures, though.

I don't use heat to straighten out the twists, if you eliminate the slop in your roller you'll eliminate most of the twist, also you can just bend it out.

Yeah the pickets are only in the stone about 1/2" but it was a pain to install.

im in china, it is called plate roller in english i think,
when we need curved railings ,we first weld the complete railing,
then roll the whole railing to a curved shape.

Panada, I've used such a machine before for plate, but wouldn't have ever thought about rolling sections of handrail....like the say, if it sounds stupid, but it works, it's not stupid!

Re: Some everyday railings (and other cool stuff)

So I got this crane from a guy last year, it's powered by winches, I'm going to mount it in my trailer, and use it for moving stuff around, but one thing it does not have is power rotate, it's built on a truck wheel bearing. So I'm taking a chain sprocket and a worm drive motor and making a powered rotate.

I had to cut out the middle of the sprocket and then actually cut it in half so I could get it around the bearing, I'll have more pics later

Do you design and install? Or does a crew do the installation. The homes look amazing.

I used to do all of the install, I've been getting my customers to use their guys for the installs, saves me time on the big jobs,

Sometimes I design, most of the time landscape architect will have a plan drawn up
