how many amps were you set-up for? Hopefully it was a faint 20A arc.
I haven't done any welding in awhile but a friend needed a small job done so I get everything set up, pull the trigger and good lord that's bright:O
Quick little 10 min job just turned in to an hour until I can see again.
Apparently last time I used the hood I set it to Grind Mode

Your auto lens should have given you burn protection and not let your eyes be damaged. All of them I have seen have the UV protection even in the off mode or grind mode. Yous should be safe.
I had the battery quit on my auto hood while migging, finished the bead.
Nasty bright, but no arc eye later.
Yeah, not worried about arc eye.
Just couldn't see fer a sec.

Back in the olden days when you only had flip lenses, I can't count how many times I struck and arc with the lens up. Always needed about 30 minutes to get the eyes refocused.
