    Sick TB 302

Over the weekend my number 2 TB started acting up, it just hit 1000 hrs. I was running good old brick red 5P and it just went volcanic and started laying a bead that looked like the polarity was backwards and seemed way too hot. Did I lose a diode? I just loaded number 3 machine on the truck and ran a few rods from the same box and got my nice sizzle that I like to hear. I guess I'll send it to the Doctor tomorrow.
FWIW, it will run 6011c just fine... sort of. That's what leads me to think diode. 10,000 combined hours on 4 TB's and this is my first serious issue.

Dropped it off this afternoon with my repair guy, he doesn't think it's too serious. While I was there he asked if I wanted to buy another 302, not wanting somebody's problem child I said "No, not really". He said I better think twice, turned out this machine has 56 hrs run time. The owner bought it and then decided he HAD to have a 325. 3K later I was out the door, Looks like it just came out of the box. Woohoo.

i miss the 302. wonder if the other guy is cursing his new 325 yet!!!

not that the 325 is bad, but, very different from other machines i have run. tough to cool the puddle.

so did you let the "old" 302 go for the new one? or are you getting it back after repair?

It's going to be coming back. As far as the 325 goes, Ive had a chance to try one and I was impressed with the arc, but I do mostly 6010 downhill pipe. I thought it was nearly as clean as an SA200. Although it was pretuned by the owner, and he was an old SA200 guy from way back.

Got the word today... just a blown diode. TBs run 6 diodes VS 4 in a Bobcat or Ranger, so they will still try to weld. News to me, I'll just be happy to get her back on the truck.
