I reset it to my same password. Am I a big dummy for doing that?
If anyone is having a problem getting back on the site after resetting their password, contact me on FB or email and I'll reset it manually for you.

I reset it to my same password. Am I a big dummy for doing that?
Nope. It's just a canned thing to protect individual accounts best of my knowledge.
I wouldn't recommend it. This isn't the only site I'm on that's going through this right now but fortunately the process isn't as painful as some. The reason they are doing this is to avoid security breaches, and some sites have had them. If you keep using the same password, and using it in multiple sites, the potential is there to get into all your sites/emails/banking etc if they hack your password from one site. One that was hacked was one I was in years ago. Fortunately I didn't reuse that password anywhere else. I think it was Steve Jobs' Facebook account that got hacked because he was using some moronically simple password. It's a sign of the times... protect your info. I know what we post here doesn't seem very important in terms of getting hacked, but using multiple sites with the same password leaves you exposed for all kinds of abuse.

Last month, thousands of forums run by Vertialscope had their password databases hacked, and people were told to reset their passwords.
This time it's Penton's turn. I was kind of expecting to see this thread, as I read about this one on the tech news several days ago.
Anyway, best practice is to use a password manager, and to set different passwords for every site.
The reasoning behind this is that once a site's password database is stolen, hackers with a list of stolen usernames/passwords can try the same combination on other sites, with a reasonable chance of some success. By using different passwords everywhere, you limit your exposure.
I got back on.... no problem.

And when informed my password was 5 days old and had expired.... I got back on again no problem.

Forcing members to change passwords at 5 day intervals is a recipe for disaster for me. At this pace, it's only a matter of time before I forget what my password du jour is and can't get on-

I am sure that that is a glitch.

That's my last password change .... every five days isn't going to happen with me. I like this forum, some of you are nuts, some aren't, some are funny, some aren't, but there's always good information to be had. It'll be too bad to miss out on the good stuff, but I'm not doing the password thing again.

You can replace your password with the same password....
I didn't want to do it the first time as I thought it was some sort of scam.

Everybody got hit with the new password thing.
I thought it odd that my password had to be replaced because it was 1047 days old.
