So, I'm at best a hobby welder learning to use my tools...
I've got this gate that used to hang between two block columns at the side of hour house. The previous home owner had welded (badly) some hinges onto some 1/8" strap on one side, and had the match on a reused fence post on the other (see pics).
Question 1) I have some 1" tube I'm going to use to replace the rusted out section of tubing, but not enough to replace the whole length (ideal). Any tips on the best technique to replace just this 4-5" section?
2) I'm looking for guidance on where to find self-closing gate hinges that can be reliably attached(welded or otherwise) to the 1/8" strap side.
I'll be grinding off and cleaning up the existing hinge cruft, so I'm pretty open to solutions.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
