I haven't been on here for a week or so, so sad that one of the best members of this group is gone. RIP DSW, my condolences to your family. Hopefully the wisdom he posted here will be immortal.

Hell, I just now saw this. I never look above the "General Welding Questions" line.

    He was a good guy.

Just received an email from Doug's Aunt asking me to post the following...

"Thanks to all for their very kind posting about Doug on the welding site...the family really appreciated the remarks.

We will be having a memorial service for Doug on Saturday, Nov 5 at 3:00 PM (3-6 pm). It will be held at the Northampton Senior Center in Richboro, PA 18954 and will be a casual affair...ties not required. Anyone who is interested should just come as they are."

Like you, I oft don't glance much above the General questions line, and the abbreviated part of the Subj line gave me pause right away.
I learned so much from DSW. I hope to be able to continue to put it to good use and to pass it forward.

    RIP
My friend (longest friend) who grew up in Foxboro sounds just like Zap, keeps telling of yet another friend or acquaintance within a couple years of our age who has died. To the two of us, having passed the 60 stone, Zap is a kid, DSW was an infant. Life should come with a better schedule. Sadly it doesn't.

I never met him, yet I feel I knew him here. Judgmental prick, willing to help anyone willing to be helped. He'd stomp a person with a bad attitude, but be very patient if you were stupid with a good attitude. Most of the people I respect fit that description. I'm saddened to lose him from the human race.

Holy ****. Sorry for the language mods but after reading the post and all the comments that's all I could come up with. So much information lost with Doug's passing, but he shared lots of information and helped so many people here and other places online and I'm sure in the real world. I never really talked to him but I got to know him through his posts. I read about some of his personal life and also his thoughts on welding and know he was very knowledgeable and willing to help. I learned a lot from him as did many others. He will be missed.

.... I need to start checking on welding Web more often. I feel like I'm missing so much going on here.

I can't believe I missed this until now! He helped me more times than I can count. Most of time he's the one I was hoping would chime in on my questions. This place won't be the same without him.

I received so much great advice from Doug. He was eager to help others, and share his passion for metalwork, as well as shooting sports.

This is saddening. One of the biggest single assets of this site is gone. I always thought he was a good communicator/people person, whether he was offering advice, or intervening on a heated exchange between two members. I'd bet he was a pleasant/genuine person to be around. With BD1 and HT24956 info, I found a nice picture of him posted online.
