Sad news concerning forum member DSW

I just got off the phone with forum member DSW's Aunt who informed me that Douglas passed away from a heart attack on Tuesday, September 6.

Don't know what else to say at this point but as he was a well respected member of the forums I thought I should break the news.

Damn.... very sorry to hear that. I wondered when he wasn't chiming in on the homemade anvil conversation. He was a good guy and a great asset to this site. I know he helped me out on several occasions. My deepest sympathies and condolences to his family.

In addition to that of his family, a tremendous loss to WW. So much welding knowledge and always ready to offer information or instruction. One of the most professional people I'll never have the privilege of meeting.

Sincerest condolences to his family and thank you HT for making us aware.

Damn, that is never news you want to hear. Doug was always willingly to help any and everyone anytime he could. I needed some help with a concrete slab and he did everything short of coming to FL to run the job. I am sure this is a tragic loss too many people who's life he has touched.

    A sad Mike

Douglas S. Wilbur passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016. He was 49.

Born in Hawaii, Douglas was a long time resident of Bucks County. A graduate of Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science with a degree in Architecture, he worked in the building trades for many years before starting his own contracting business.

Doug loved outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, scuba diving and archery and had an avid interest in the art of blacksmithing.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Klara Wilbur; his sisters, Heidi and Melinda; and will be deeply missed also by his Aunt Saile, his Uncle Scott and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial gifts be sent to the Bucks County 4H Club.

Re: Sad news concerning forum member DSW

Ok, gained my composure a little.

I've known Doug prolly close to nine years best I can recall. Met him over on Microzone. Spoken to him on the phone, lots in PMs and stuff. Gave me some great advice and I looked up to him as someone I wanted to emulate in attitude and action. He was here in Michigan a few years back and I wanted to hook up with him but it just didn't happen. I wish now it would have. He was also very generous. Gave me some stuff and wouldn't take a dime for it. Even on shipping.

He was always the moderator who had a level head and could bring us together on stuff. I regarded him as a sincerely good friend and fellow administrator of this site. It was funny, when I was invited to become a mod, I suggested to steve that Doug be made one too. Little did I know he had already been asked as well.

I've been on the road working the last several weeks and just heard of this today. Gamble texted me as a matter of fact. I also want to thank Bob and Dave for posting about it. I haven't been on IFI for awhile, or I likely would have known sooner.

I'm really gonna miss him. Obviously, I'm not the only one who feels that way. Such a huge loss for the site, as well as for those who knew him personally.

Life is so very fragile. How often we are reminded of it when something like this happens.
