I have used this particular tool in the past. It's an awesome tool for when you need one but it has a few shortcomings like the actual motor. I am asking the communities help, if anybody knows of an attachment that can change a regular grinder into a Dynafile II. I have several Metabo grinders which in my opinion are superior to the motor found on the Dynafile including the ability to utilize variable speed.

Yes I know Metabo sells a Bandfile...... but at over $600 I cannot justify it considering I already have a bunch of $200 plus angle grinders by them.

I am also aware of Milwaukee and Mikita having similar offerings.

What I am looking for is something that can be attached to the existing Metabo grinders.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You know I spent a lot of time looking for a used Metabo burnisher a while back for a reasonable price. Couldn't find one so I spent big bucks buying a new one. Turns out the only thing that separates a burnisher from a grinder is a little adapter that threads onto the spindle. Burnisher motor eventually burnt out, so I just took the adapter and installed it on a variable speed grinder. Grinders are so mass produced that there are soooo many different applications where they just make the adapters to fit a grinder body. I don't know the setup of the Dynafile, but it may be as simple as unscrewing something from the spindle and threading it onto another one of your choice. You could look at the diagram at www.eReplacementparts.com and see how it goes together. Might be able to just order the replacement parts you need to make the bandfile.

I have that set up and it's limiting first in the actual motor body. And secondly most important is it doesn't have variable speed capabilities. I've read some of your earlier posts where you claim to have Metabo products. Since you're familiar with Metabo ( I don't know if you have any experience with their variable speed line) maybe you could understand how been able to adapt the dynafile to a Metabo grinder body would be extremely beneficial and would result in a much more superior product.

Don't get me wrong I am not trashing the Dynafile. I use one when it's necessary. I am just looking for more capabilities from an existing solution.

@ Weld_ - the simple answer to your request is "no".

We run a pneumatic Dynafile II. Excellent condition, $140 via CL and equipped with hose/swivel as shown. The housing had a slight crack that did not/not effect performance. However, we contacted Dynabrade and ordered a new housing for $40. Then, replaced several o-rings and springs for an additional $25 to fresh'n the nip. Now, she runs like Speed Racer's Mk V on surface finishing DOM tubing and other material removal apps. Never experienced any 'shortcomings' you inferred.

Dynabrade's customer service is best in class.

Dynabrade for the most part is very good with their customer service. I am not knocking the company just trying to expand the capabilities of the current product offering. I appreciate your suggestion but you are comparing apples and oranges I need something with a cord not a pneumatic solution. But as always I appreciate you chiming in trying to help. :)

I have an electric Dynafile and it's quite handy. I still prefer the pneumatic Dynafile with the 24" belts but you don't always have the option of dragging an air compressor with you everywhere you go lol.

I've seen some of the bolt on jobs for angle grinders but they didn't look as well built as the purpose specific stuff. Maybe something is out there for metabo machines... The connection point area is different than other units because of their guard design. On the newer ones anyways. That may be where the difficulty lies in a retrofit effort...

Good luck with it either way. If the electric Dynafile was vari speed it would be great lol.

My Metabo burnisher is vari speed, but after seeing CS Unitec's rat tail offering at Fabtech, I wish I would have waited. I got a good deal on mine tho and bought it as a kit with the metal box and everything. Unitech's machine is over $700 retail and I dunno if you get anything with it.

The purple machine Mick has is made by the same company, only marketed under a different name in Europe and Oz.
