Not familiar with that plasma cutter, but the torch sure looks a lot like an S-45 style, a bit sturdier too. Trafimets are found on a lot of cutters, so I would not be surprised at all if the consumables listed in your manual are the correct ones.

Thanks, I did read that thread and your posts, but probably a bit too fast. Looks like my torch is exactly the same as the one you got. Then on page 8 and post #199 there's one with the same body but very different nozzle, seems better for dragging purposes. Seems like everybody in that thread is still pretty confused about what the torch is and what consumables it takes. Someone says PT40, then there is an image posted about pin configuration for an S45 and it's the exact same torch, with a purple color. I'll send an email to the company for more info.

 

Are you happy with the torch after all, and did you try the shielded parts? (Forney)

Sure does not look like it takes the PD0110 electrodes the S-45 torch takes. Unless you retro fit them..

For certain parts, like the shielded cup and cap, there is a pretty big cost difference between Forney and Century Tool. Any difference in quality, if anyone knows?

 

Buy the original Italian stuff if you can..

I only really know what is good in the S-45 stuff. Some of the Ebay China companies have the option for real Italian made consumables.. That's where your best deal is.. Like ten nozzles for under $23.00 with Free shipping.. Have to dig for them a bit, but you don't even have to buy from Ebay either.. They are on-line too..

I am using the harder to find .065MM nozzles on my new 120 volt/ 20 amp machine, and those are the tough ones to get deals. .08 mm, and .09 mm nozzles are everywhere. (good ones too..)

Thanks for the replies. Between this, the other long thread, and some more reading, I've come to the conclusion that this seems to be a pretty good torch, and it offers me a good way to do drag cutting by adding the shielded consumables.

Let me try and clear up some of the confusion between the PT (Italy)/IPT (China) torch and the Traifmet S45 torch (Italy) and S45 copys (China).

First the Traifmet S45 from Italy is a top of the line torch. The S45 from China work somewhat. And is what is called a front striking/blow-back pilot arc torch.

The Tecmo PT torch from Italy is top of the line torch. The IPT torch from China works well but not made with the best materials. And is whats called a back striking pilot arch torch.

Now in the pictures I will be posting you will see a lot of the differences between them. The biggest difference is the travel of the plunger (the part the electrode screws into)

The S45 plunger moves about twice as far as the PT does. You only need the plunger to move a little on the PT back striking to brake the contact and start the arc. As were you need about twice the range to start the arc with the S45. You can e see this in some of the pictures.

The PT/IPT torch has a lot of advantages over the S45 as far as consumables. The biggest one is the shielded consumables used on a lot of the higher priced plasma cutters on the market. I have put some of them in the pictures.

Now A lot of people have been using the S45 consumables on the PT/IPT torch's and they will work well. But you will not get the best performance from them as the torch was designed for the back striking consumables as well as air flow through the torch and around the electrode and tip/nozzle

On the other hand the back striking consumables will not work at all in the S45 torch. Ask everyone that calls me because there plasma cutter won't strike an arc after buying the consumables from Harbor Freight for there older plasma cutters, or other people that used to get the S45 consumables from HF for there plasma cutters.

Thanks for this. In the case of my Razor Cut machine, the inside of the head is what you show on the left (PT) but the consumables provided with it are the S45 style (not back-striking).

 

I picked up some real PT consumables when I first got my RazorCut 45. I might also grab some shielded parts from mechanic416.

 

If you want better performance out of your plasma cutter get the consumables made for the torch.
