    Fabricator 252i Mig Gun

When I install the mig gun that comes with the 252, I notice there are 2 O-rings and then a shoulder at the back of the plug. When installed, how much of a gap should be between the socket and the shoulder on the male plug? The second o-ring is only about an 8th of an inch covered. Or, am I installing the mig gun wrong?

The two O Ring go in the slots right next to the gas ports.

Make sure the outer guide tube(inside the machine gun block) is not sticking out holding the gun from going in all the way.. If you can get the set screw tightened in it's groove, it should be OK..There is no way to even see the o-rings when the gun is installed correctly. The brass parts on the gun, and machine will butt up against each other..

In the picture above, there is a gap of about 1/8 of an inch between the gun and the face of the socket. I don't know if I should be worried about that or not. Can you check on yours BrandX?

Mine is pretty much flush. Brass to brass.. Does the set screw tighten in it's groove. Pull on the gun, and see. If it's getting gas flow you are probably ok..

    Re: Fabricator 252i Mig Gun

I do get gas and the gun locks in, so I suppose I'm ok. Also is the liner in the mig gun capable of running 045 wire or do I have to get a different liner?

My gun sits like yours in the picture, I have a velocity hooked up at the moment. You should be good to go on .045 wire. Unless they changed something the fusion 250 guns would handle up to .045.

They come factory with .040-045 liners.. I have my fusion gun on the 252i now.. (Real diffuser on it though)

    Re: Fabricator 252i Mig Gun

Sorry guys, but I'm an idiot. The male gun connector kept sliding out of the mig socket on the welder, and I finally took a critical look at how it all worked. What I had missed, and the factory had missed, was that the liner end had not been set screwed correctly to the base of the mig gun connector. The factory builder had set screwed the liner far enough out that the o-ring was exposed. When you push in the gun, the lock screw won't bottom, and the gun will stick out 1/16-1/8th inch.

To correct I loosened the set screw for the liner, pushed it in, tightened the screw, and now everything fits perfectly.

Things happen, and not really your fault on that one..

Might want to also loosen the set screw in the handle of the gun too. Pull the gun out of the machine, lay it straight, pull the nozzle out of the gun, and see how everything rides.. The set screw in the middle of the gun handle keeps the tension correct along the liner length, and also allows for the right pre-load on the tips. One reason I dislike that setup overall, and run standard Tweco tips/nozzles/diffusers. Millions of gun use that setup, and there was no need to reinvent the wheel.. (IMO) Doing this will just show you how to change out your liner correctly later..

Mind giving us a primer on how you modded your gun to take the standard tweco stuff?

    Re: Fabricator 252i Mig Gun

Just remove the gun, and liner, cut off the end where factory nozzle threads on.. Drill, and Tap for either a screw on, or slip on nozzle diffuser. (same threads for either) I used the 52FN style for the Thread on nozzle style.. This will have the tap size you need.. These will use the #14 Tweco tips. You can reuse your factory liner too.. I used Amercan Torch tip parts, but many others including Tweco are everywhere.

Pictures are showing the slip on nozzle style, when I first changed it over.. (Had the parts onhand)
