That's super slick!!
If the mods feel this needs to be placed in the market section feel free and let me know. Thanks.
I picked up a Pexto 390D 16 gauge by 36" slip roller a couple of years ago in an auction. It needed a complete restore since it had been sitting outside in the rain for a while.
I stripped it down and primed and painted it and since then I have only used it a few times. One of the issues was that I had it stuck against the wall and didn't have it on wheels. I would have to drag it across the shop floor into a place where I could use it. I knew it would also move around a bit on me while I was cranking on it if I had put it on wheels so that is why I didn't put it on wheels.
I had a number of artistic projects I wanted to complete and knew I needed to make it easier to use.
I already had a Harbor Freight pipe threader and made up an octagonal adapter out of a piece of solid 2" square bar stock. I then had to mill out a 1" deep hole that fit the 7/8" square drive of the roller. In order to attach the pipe threader to the roller I just made up a quick bracket. After using it a bit I decided to add wheels to the base of the slip roller since I now didn't have to worry about it wandering as I was cranking on it.
I recently added a HF foot control to turn the threader on and off. Now I can manipulate the piece of metal with both hands as it goes through the roller and end up with the compound curves I want.
I thought this was a pretty good idea so went down to the local CNC machine shop and had them make up a bunch of the drive adapters with a 7/8" square drive hole on one side and a 1" square drive hole on the other. If anyone is interested in purchasing one, shoot me a PM. Right now they are $100 each with free shipping. If you need a different size or a metric one, I am sure they can do that.
I am sure some of the guys/girls on here could make them pretty easily but since I am not a full time machinist or welder, it took me most of a day and I snapped several end mills just trying to make my prototype.
Simple threader bracket plus a block of 2" solid square stock, the prototype, and then the final adapter.
Cheesy video showing how I did it and the roller in action.
