Hello there. I am new to this forum so I hope i Am posting in the correct place

I have an older Miller 22A wire feeder. I got it for a steel but couldn't test it at the time of purchase. I assumed it was broken when I purchased it. when I first Plugged it into my XMT 350 nothing happened when you pulled the trigger or flipped the jog or purge switches. I poked around with a multimeter and determined the circuit breaker was faulty. I fixed that problem and sure enough everything worked....or so I thought. when you pull the trigger the wire feeds smooth and the gas flows. but the second you start welding the wire feeds very erratically. when you watch the drive motor it is actually stuttering as if the motor is loosing power on and of many times a second. this problem does not at all to appear to be cause by pressure on the wire or a pinch it seems to that the motor runs sporadically only when welding current is running through the machine.

If someone on this forum can help me get straightened out it would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for your time

Get some contact cleaner and clean the wire feed speed reostat on the feeder. Work it back and forth while spraying. You could also do the same to the pin plug contacts just to make sure they are clean.
The welder isn't set to voltage sensing by chance. My 304 has a setting for a wire feeder.

my xmt was not set to voltage sensing. how ever it did blow up a few months back, I had it repaired under warranty. I will defiantly try your suggestion out. im handing my wire feeder over to a friend who can hopefully plug it into an xmt at his shop and eliminate my xmt from the equation. I will post updates.

thank you for your time

The Miller 22A is NOT a voltage sensing feeder it is a constant voltage feeder.

Check with tech guys At www.millerwelds.com and get the correct wiring diagram for the brain cable from your XMT to the 22A
These units have been paired togather by the millions and work great.
The 22A is a very good feeder and very seldom do they have problems.
