New AHP 250 amp 3 in 1 MIG TIG STICK

Don't have a whole bunch of info yet, but some sneak peek pics of the new machine that is replacing the prior version. This one also didn't require freight shipping.
Will have DC pulse for TIG, HF start, unsure the pps range. Includes all torches and a pedal, spool gun will be available also. Price is not determined yet, will less than $1300. Size comparison next to the AlphaTIG200x. Will do 33lb spool. Should be available in July.

Probably going to do pretty well with a 250amp multiprocess machine for less than $1300 that includes all the goodies.

    Wow,

HF TIG starts on a 250 amp MIG unit like that is a nice touch.

Looks like the running gear under the previous version was deleted, which can be a plus or minus to some, I suppose. It's undoubtedly easier, cheaper, and smaller to ship now. I think I like the idea of a unit like that, with its competent TIG ability on a raised cart with shelves, rather than as a stand-alone floor unit.

Looks like two gas inlets mean two gas solenoids and the ability to keep both installed for switching the process immediately.

Producers, values, and the market for welding units just keep getting better and better.

You'll probably enjoy selling those units, SouthPaw.

I saw a video iirc where Jim Colt mentioned power switches are being placed in the rear of the machine where the power comes into it for electrical code compliance.

    Yeah,

I've tended to place a switch on the front of a couple of machines of mine, for the sake of convenience. It may be a long wait for every manufacturer to do it.

I understand from a wiring aspect it makes sense. But from a consumer aspect it makes sense to be on the front. Lincoln sq tig 200, miller diversion. Those are all on the front

Not to steal the thread but*why are all the new machines putting the power switch on the back? My Thermal Dynamics plasma cutter, AHP 200 tig welder, and a new Lincoln wire feed welder at work all have the power switches on the back?

    Yeah,

They seem to have been superseded by this new AHP one.

But, I think Eastwood has it under their label, still.

    Hi Soutthpaw,
    Thanks for the preview.
Any idea how much this bad boy is going to weigh (minus the spool of wire)?
    Thanks

Re: New AHP 250 amp 3 in 1 MIG TIG STICK

Having the power switch in the back is a non issue to me. I have my gas bottles and power cable at the rear of the machine so when I go to start using the machine for the day I have to turn my gas on and plug in the machine from the rear of the machine any way. I never leave my gas on or the machine plugged in. I'm kind of a wierdo like that. I don't like to leave things plugged in when not in use. Any way since I always plug them in and unplug the machine it's easy to use the power switch at the rear of the machine. I don't keep my machines tucked away up under and in a cabinet which would make it hard to reach and provide less clean cool fresh air for keeping the machine nice and cool.

N2, I'm with you. My power switch is just a few inches from my tank valve, so my hands are at the rear of the machine every time I start/stop welding.

Re: New AHP 250 amp 3 in 1 MIG TIG STICK

I thought that the NEC only applied to home and building electric circuits, not to machines. Sort of why the NEC requires 10 gauge for 30 amp circuits, but a machine that requires a 30 amp circuit can come from the factory with 12 ga. wire because its an engineered system with a built-in diversity factor (i.e. dury cycle). So i dont quite buy the "code" issue, perhaps a UL requirement for some items, but even then i think UL only certifies that an item will not cause a fire or shock people under normal use.

Does that mean that Eastwood is the principle owner/producer of this unit or did they buyout AHP or is just a licensing deal?
This makes for some confusing stuff.

This unit does more and also offers more power, it's inevitable that scaling it up physically is going to happen. More space for components, heat dissipation/distribution and so on.

My understanding the design was sold to Eastwood. AHP is not owned by Eastwood. some of Eastwood's machines are made at same factory as AHP.

but don't forget to say that eastwood buys them as cheap as possible and AHP uses higher quality parts and different software etc. Makes a world of difference in quality
