new member trying to get some ideas for my ranger 8 to welder smoother

using my ranger 8 the other for about 8 hours straight on a dirt screen for a construction contractor, the the frame was very beat up old and rusty. even once i ground to clean metal the sound of the arc is very choppy and hard to make a aesthetically pleasing weld especially out of position. ive been welding for 10 years and this problem is very frustrating. looking for advice

Photos of the questionable welds could help plus what rod? What settings? What material size? The basics.

The vibrating parts of a screen can develop magnetic fields in them. Try welding with welder set to AC and AC compatible rod.

the rod i was running was 1/8 7018 on the 125 setting and fine adjustment on 7, the dirt screen was not a vibrating screen, it just uses gravity. the problem i find is more of the sounds of the arc, but it was on old rusted metal sometime not all the way cleaned

Try some 1/8" 6011. Sounds like what you're working on is commonly called a "grizzly".

Are you welding the Grizzly bars to the frame? Those can be a manganese alloy or and AR plate type material.
