    Sae 250

I recently came across a sae 250 older one looks a lot like a sae300 or sae 400 . It is all there deisel motor I think a continental deisel I think it is a early 60's model . In my travels I have never seen another one has anyone else ? A mechanic friend of mine put a battery in it some fuel started right up has some rubber fuel lines that are cracked and leaking need replacing then I can bring it home a see if it welds.

I've got one! It has a 4 cylinder gas Continental F-163 engine. If it was a diesel model, it would be a Perkins 3 cylinder.

I would like to see pictures of it! I have heard of them but never seen pictures or one in person. If it is the Continental TMD 27 I have a manual if you have questions.

That looks like a nice machine! I like those SAE's with the reactors. The pictures can be tricky sometimes. What is the code#?

    Re: Sae 250

I can tell you this much. I have original Lincoln operator's manuals for the SAE engine drives, manual # IM-203-D (from 1968) and IM-203-E (two of these, one from 1972 and one from 1984). The SAE-250 is only mentioned in the IM-203-D manual, only with the Hercules and Continental diesels, and both are marked as out of production in that print of the manual.

The Hercules model number is SAE-250-DIX4D.
    The Continental model is SAE-250-GD157.

So I'm pretty sure that your machine was made prior to 1968.

Sorry, the one your thinking of was an old SAE 200 belt drive that was run off an old 4 cylinder flathead with a chain type shaft coupler... I'm not sure if it was even a Continental or a Willys. That was the old crude beast with the firewood belt adjuster.
The only Diesel machine I have owned was the giant Hobart with the 2-71 Detroit. Still working on getting the paper pics scanned in for you.

    Re: Sae 250

Sorry I forgot about the diesel and it being a belt drive to start with.

    Re: Sae 250

In reply to you Blocker as to what I am going to do with it ? First I wanna get it running good second I think I will build a trailer for it . I think I will leave it as is fix some battery cables etc, just cause there aren't many of them. Get some leads for it take it out and weld with it occasionally .keep it in the shop next to my 61 red and blue face and my red face and my work in progress 47 shorthood. And in a few more years when I get to old to keep doing it I hope some young guy that has a passion for what it was like in the old days comes along takes it home and doesn't change it a bit.

Sounds like a you are doing an immense service to our community then! I wonder why these machines were not so popular. I am excited to see your progress.
