Well, I can answer without question, because I recently did buy a MIG welder for that price. I chose the ESAB Rebel EM 215ic.

Seemed like it had a good feature set for the money. So far I really like it.

The reason I mentioned the ones I did was cost. The mvp is ok, if it's not needed it's extra expence. That and they work well.

 

which welding machine do you have now?

 

Lincoln Weld-Pak 100 !!!!!! I think I paid $300 for it 1 million years ago. I gotta say though, it has to be one tough donkey of a machine for what I've put it through.

My vote would be the Lincoln 180, doesnt matter if pro mig, weld pak, 180C, 180HD, etc, all pretty much the same machine, just branded for different vendors.

 

The 180C is the only one that is different as it has continuous voltage selection and is only sold through welding supply stores.

the box store machines are the same as you mentioned and they are tapped voltage machines.

Id probably search Craigslist for a used one. I picked up this Lincoln PowerMig 200 for $500 ( basically stole it).
