Greetings from the Tampa Bay, Florida area

    Hello all,

I recently purchased a home that also has a nice size workshop on the property which has re-sparked my interest in having the equipment and capability to do my own fabrication for small projects around the property. At my day job, our welders and fitters mainly use the Miller Maxstar series for job site welding of process piping and thin wall stainless tubing so I purchased a new Maxstar 161 for my workshop. It has been a "number of years" since I was active under the hood as my career path took me more on the administrative side including QA/QC. I became a AWS CWI in 1999. I am now enjoying spending some time under the hood and dusting off my technique and I look forward to hearing what other members here are up to.

    Michael

    Howdy Michael,

Also from the Tampa Bay Area myself. Caught a slot sized snook just a few weekends ago actually. I’m going to be a student welder this coming summer, and have set myself up with a little 185 AC/DC TIG and SMAW Unit for practice. Maybe we could meet up some time, and exchange some pointers and scrap metal for some beer.

Congrats on the recent snook! Where are you planning on going to tech school? I’m still in the early stages of settling up my shop...work full time which leaves limited time to play in the workshop.

I’ll be going to Hillsborough Community College’s Vocational campus this summer for school. When/if you do get some spare time, Id be glad to come over and help setup if you needed it, and of course talk fishing, and welding. I’d love to pick your brain, being a CWI and all. Shoot me a pm if interested!
