tigging grade 5 hardware with silicon bronze

back in the 60's and 70's i oxy-acetylene brazed a lot of stuff with coated brass. now that i have a tig welder, i want to make some nice looking repairs and funny thing for the neighborhood kids with grade 5 hardware. will silicon bronze stick to the coating (i'm assuming it is like a zinc compound) without removing that coating? will i be able to just clean the hardware and heat till the silicon bronze melts and flow it on? anything else need to be done? not looking for strength. like securing the nut on a bolt.

    thanks rob

Coating is cadmium, I understand the fumes are far worse than zinc, on the plus side, it is very thin.
