Anything else I should look into getting? Only welding I do now is mig. While researching there are all kinds of nifty things to get....

I've read that tungsten colors aren't as big a concern as before with the transformer machines?

Tig welding has a steep learning curve. I haven't even lit an arc yet...
2 percent lanthanated is a good choice. Might want to get a torch lead cover as well.

@Oscar, are you aware of any decent Italian machines?

Yea, there's a few in Italy that I know of. For sure I know it's not Stel; they're moving forward, not backward. That welder looks like it came from 2010

This is what Stel's current line up looks like.

Does anyone know how to tell if these are in stock ready to ship?

What pedal is shipping with them?

Is there a receptacle for cooler?

Check the Primeweld website for current status.
It ships with an SSC style pedal and I believe the new units have a 110v receptacle for a cooler.

Thank you! I called them. You are correct on both: SSC style pedal and 120v receptacle for cooler. Order placed!

It’s the shorter of the two lengths CK offers.

The receptacle is a 120/240 volt set up for the Primeweld cooler. The CK17 torch has a 12 1/2 foot cable.Name: 20200626_170935.jpg

    Re: Primeweld AC/DC Tig 225X

Thanks for the offer mechanic416, I finally stepped up to a tig as I have an aluminum project I want to do.
I got my welder yesterday, I haven't even pulled the welder it self out, so I haven't laid eyes on the outlet in the back however, I'm out to get a tig hose cover and a pack of 2% as recommended, Thanks again. pics of the accessories,:

Ok went through weldmonger, got a tig torch stand, a hose cover and a combo pack of the 2%. Its all the little thigs that add up as well.

I just read this entire thread and want to say thanks to all the positive posts, and even the few negative ones. I saw this welder used in a YT video and that got me to doing more research on it. I'm a complete newbie to welding so I'll have quite a few questions.

    Re: Primeweld AC/DC Tig 225X

    Received my welder today.

I ordered the Furick cup mounting direct from Furick. This is my first air cooled torch (I have a water cooled torch on my Syncrowave). The rear caps don’t seat all the way into the torch body. Is this normal?

This is how I have it going together:

    Is this ok/correct?

I’ve never used those caps but if the o-ring has seated and the tungsten is snug then I’d say you’re good to go.

You need to change a few of your settings. You don't need pre flow unless you plan on doing SS. You need to up the post flow to about 7 seconds and the switch bottom right need to be set on the bottom not the middle.

Thank you! I’m still reading through the manual.

Can you answer my back cap question? Is this normal/ok?

As long as the o-ring seals it will be fine. A little silicone grease on the o-ring will help it seal also.

Did you order the TIG kit? I've been looking at that kit, but I don't know enough about the components to know if it fits the TIG225x that I ordered. I know the torch that comes with the 225x is a #17, but that's all I know about it.

    Re: Primeweld AC/DC Tig 225X

The PrimeWeld manual calls for a 50 amp breaker for 220v. But in the specifications section, it looks like it's only going to pull about 33 amps. I have a 40 amp 220v circuit in my garage that I've used for 20 years for tables saws and an EV. After an email conversation with my electrician (a relative), I think it may take a lot of work and expense to upgrade the circuit to a full 50 amp rating.

I don't want to be unsafe. I really hate half-assing things. But now is not a good time to have to shell out what he's recommending, which is all new wiring from the main panel, to include replacing the existing garage breakers with GFI.

Is the PrimeWeld going to work on the existing 40 amp circuit? I'm not welding thick aluminum, not more than 1/8". This is all small stuff right now, just to learn how and get familiar with the machine.

I’ve got mine on a 40A and it works great. Had it up to 200A and no problems. At the time the wiring was exposed in the wall and it wasn’t even warm.

Yes it will work fine on a 40 amp line. Please don't cut the plug off the welder. Just install a new 6-50R to plug it into.

    Re: Primeweld AC/DC Tig 225X

I have a question about how to know what the settings are on my machine. The AC Frequency knob has a range of 40 to 200. In the position shown in the picture, what would you come up with for a number? I figured the range is 160 (200 minus 40) so half of that would be 80. 80 + 40 = 120. The knob is just a bit counterclockwise of center, so I'm guessing the frequency is 115 Hz.
