tips needed...

I built one of these "liquor bottle cages" as a gift...

got it all done... painted up today....

fixin to weld up the 4 legs from the bottom side..... tomorrow morn.

I'm thinking I would hit it with some silicon bronze and quickly cool it with a wet rag...

I'm worried about putting too much heat in and cracking the bottle...

base is 1/8"

all I have is 1/8" silicon bronze rod.... any tips?

I figure 50-60 amps??
or go hotter and fill the hole quick as possible... ?

I would just hit it real quick with some fusion tacks on the bottom.Not like its structural.

I think if you just welded one leg at a time. Hot and fast. You'll be okay.

actually... now you got me thinkin... maybe I should just mig (plug weld) them fast and quench it.

I did everything else tig...

That's what I'd do. I can put my finger on the tack right after it's made if u do it right.

if the label wont come off from getting soaked with water, turn the whole thing upside down in a bucket of water as you weld the bottom...or wrap the bottle with a wet towel to avoid overheating..

I'm not really down with that.

I think the best thing is to keep the bottle at room temperature, zap it quick and quench it with a rag. it should cool down immediately. I've done that with sheet metal plug welds....

anyway... we will know in about 30 minutes....

I got 4 tacks on it and chickened out ...

Gonna fill the rest with Devcon and grind it flush

You know I don't think that's a bad idea. I don't know if I'd go as far as spooge'n some JB weld on it but I guess you could if the urge was strong enough.

Do decorative standoffs/collar and extend the bar through the standoff. Weld the bar below the standoff. Might need a stop above the plate.
