Is there less heat distortion with spray transfer over short circuit mig welding?

Playing with 16 gauge and 1/8th inch aluminum and steel.

Sure seems like less distortion to me.

Is it because forward motion is so much faster with spray?

Or is the heat getting to me? (It was 108f in the shop yesterday!)

Or do I just need new glasses!

Very well could be due to faster travel. Set up identical test pieces and try it both ways, with same size fillet. Measure the heat affected area for comparison.

One of Lincoln's rules for limiting distortion is to lay down the maximum amount of material in the minimum time. This is also the reason multiple pass will also increase distortion.

Jody Collier did a video about time/distortion. He said it's less about how much you put in and more about how long you put it in. It heat soaks through the metal further, the longer you apply it.

No not that one. That was has to do with direction of bending. I know with out even clicking on it

I had to choose between 2, I chose wrong. I thought he reiterated his previous points in that video (he usually repeats himself 5 times). Anyway here is his other one.
