    CAT C7 engine opinions/experiences

    looking at possibly buying a truck with a 2000 CAT C7 engine. 135k miles. anyone have experience with these engines and are they worth buying??/

    You might watch some of "Adept Ape's" videos on Youtube. Seems like a pretty knowledgable guy in regards to Cats. For what it's worth.

    im pretty sure we have the same engine in a ford 750 but its a 08 engine and truck not a big fan of that engine it cost are place a bunch of money to keep running only abnout 160k mile but lots of issues and leaks

    all issues are with the emissions and exhaust parts

    That's what I'm finding, this one is pre ACERT which was all the emissions stuff.

    Cat stopped selling on road engines around 2011, thats a huge market but they were concerned with their rep that should tell you.

    Biggest issues you will have along with all the emission probs is the ECU taking a dump had it happen to me with my 3126 same ECU they use step up transformers to go from 12v DC to 120v Dc to fire the injectors when they fail new ECM and programming time $$2000 plus, lots of oil leaks and failure points on the last series Cat motors, they all have probs but give me a Cummins on road vs a Cat any day.
