so the 1640 is 16"x40" ? I'm guessing 16" cross and 40" up and down the front from chuck to idler?

16" swing is the largest diameter item you can spin before it hits the carriage or the bed,depending on machine.
40" is the span between chuck mounting plate and tailstock.

Any one have any thoughts about an older '1912 Cincinnati 18" swing mill? Too old? Hard to find parts etc?

I don't think the gcode commands are standard on that machine..... you'd probably have to crank your own code to make anything worthwhile...

Yeah ya think LOL... It's kind of rough looking too but if I can get it at the right price I could start turning parts. Suppose to be just over 9' long.

Comes with 3 & 4 jaw chucks

any other tooling? having 3 n 4 jaw chucks is always good do you have enough room for something that long

Just the Tool Post holder and the tailstock. No drill chucks or live centers as far as I know and no other tooling :/ Maybe I should just hold off until I can go to a few auctions. There is one coming up pretty soon. I don't think there will be any manual machines like this though mostly all high dollar cnc machines.
