Just bear in mind that that Everlast and AHP are owned by the same people.I am not talking about the everlast I think he had a problem . now he is into AHP he is getting paid from what i understand.
When you are using DC tig you have to have HF or Cap discharge or the arc won't start. Unless you are using lift or scratch start. Primeweld tig 225 is HF start even on DC tig, just start it drops out as soon as the arc starts.

I couldn't find any reviews of that one. I don't like the twist lock type cord they use. Everyone pretty much has a standard welding outlet, but they do a different cord, what is that about? Is that unit a pilot arc? I was watching a video about a Primeweld multi process and was interested in that, but was not a pilot arc. I think they make one with the pilot arc though.
So I should definitely go with IGBT over MOSFET right? Is Lotos and Primeweld the same unit? I was actually looking at both, but they seem to be the same machine. The Lotos LTP5000D looks ok, but is MOSFET design. Also looking at the Primeweld CT520DP. Anyone own these machines and have thoughts? I appreciate everyone's input
I would get the machine that best meets your budget and requirements. Take which plug or lack of completely out of the equation.
IMO of course.

Bought it Jan 2018...okay welder...

Amazon had a Black Friday deal on the Lotos LTP5000D in November or 2016 for $346. Home Depot price matched so I bought it from them and added a 3 year protection plan for $60.00 because of the high percentage of reported failures in customer reviews. HD said I could bring it back to any HD store if it failed within 3 years which will be up this November. It works great for what I use it for. If I use a guide, I can cut a nice straight line in sheet metal or even 1/4 inch. I have cut a few things thicker than that but it requires a slow hand and patience. Haven't used the Acetylene torch for cutting since I got the Lotos. I think a lot of reported "dead on arrival" complaints were user set-up problems. Also they have improved them a bit since my model. The main improvement seems to be putting the air pressure gauge in the front panel instead of external on the back. Last summer I was cutting a big piece of rusty plate and the pilot arc stopped working which scared me. I cleaned the nozzle and cup and it worked again to my relief. So the Lotos has been great from my needs but I've never used a high dollar machine, so I don't know the difference. I think I will fit it with a better torch this year however. And you do want to put an air dryer on you compressor for any plasma cutter.
Willy J, you may have the smaller torch with the switch tie wrapped to the handle, I did. It shorted out internally and I replace it with one from HD for about $60. Much nicer and I think it is about 13' lkong. Had my Lotos LTP5000D for several year with intermittent use and have been pleased with it, more so with the new torch.

so will a Hypertherm 30XP cut 1/2 ok or u have to work at it?
so can any of these cheaper 110/220 units cut 1/2 inch clean? no matter brand?
Depends on their amperage output IMO. I know Hyper Therm, Thermal Dynamics (back in their day, don't know about now) and maybe Miller and Esab now, can effectively increase cutting thickness by manipulating the arc in the gun by different means. Soooo IMO to effectively cut 1/2", and I mean a quality cut, you need a minimum of 40 amps. I'm sure there will be some who will disagree with me, and that's ok, to each his own, but I say 40 amps. And I'm talking 1/2 mild steel.
What do you you mean by cheaper.I think sub 500.00 you will have trouble cutting 1/2" and start bashing the Machine calling it junk.If you want to cut 1/2" get closer to 1000.00. 50 or 60 Amp.These sub 500.00 cutters have a hard time with a steady diet of 1/4".My versa cut 40 Amp from Eastwood Is very happy with 1/4".And my AHP 60 is Happy with 1/2".I will not go above these limits.never had to and very seldom do I need to .But if I did O/A.I never got rid of my Small O/A set up Even though I suck at cutting But use it for other jobs. The word sever is a marketing word and asking for trouble.Do not under estimate clean metal. It probably ads 1/8" to a clean cut.I only learned by my mistakes.Like AGW said Mild Steel only.Anything else .All bets are off.

Lot's of good info. thanks guys
Ok so school us even more, why would i need two plasma cutters? a big and small, cant you turn a big one down to do small/thinner stuff or is the head bigger on it for cutting thicker things and harder to do a precise job/closer in corners etc.... You said you have one at 40amp and one at 60.
I learned to cut and weld with O/A in high school, two years of metal class i could cut pretty good but you have to have good tips varying in size as well for different thickness to do better jobs and you learn how long to sit in one spot and how much air to blow etc.....blah blah nothing you guys dont know im just a hack, but i could never cut anything like ive seen a plasma that is why i am wanting one, not to mention as my eyes get worse its harder to do as good a job with an O/A.

Nobody said you need 2 Plasma cutters. You probably do not need any like me.But you want one to make life a little easier. If you really need a Cutter for a business you would be spending a whole lot more money. But these Asian imports are a good alternative.I do not have 2 .I have 3.The first one i bought is a Hypertherm PM30 It took a crap. Still trying to get it to work.If not will put it up for sale as is.Then I bought the Versa cut 40 I think it was worth the money. The first month I worked the hell out of it before the 30 day return ran out. Perfect for what I needed.Than I got a Bug up my Butt and Bought the AHP.It has a whole lot more sizes of nozzles and consumables in general.Plus it is IGBT and a nice Blowback torch. If I decided to sell one it would be the Versa cut. But I doubt that I will sell it. I hate selling tools that work.
