    Tig Flow meter ball

Ok I need some clarification on one thing, the ball in the flow meter. when setting the flow and you are setting to the 15 cfh mark is this with the top of the ball or the bottom on the mark

I always read the ball flow meters at centerball.... unless marked differently like shovelon says.

Victors are always top of ball. Esab is usually top of ball and says so on the globe.

Well thanks but after some more research ronsii gets the star mid ball is what was in the docs from the flow meter's manufacture.
But I'm sure like many things it may be brand specific

I just remember it from an old school guy giving me tips 25-30 years ago. Not really sure how much difference it makes anyways when you look at how precise or not these are

I put the bottom of the ball where I think 11 is on my flow meter, works good with my 5 cup.

Look on the back of it on the tube, some will tell you where it’s calibrated at

Measure at the torch if you're that concerned about the actual flow rate.

I'm with Henry on this one. But, we're assuming the hand held unit is accurate. Food for thought. Bob

Use a 5 cup then. There the best and easiest to weld with. I stuck my tungsten out about 5/8” or more the other day no problem on stainless

Mine is printed on my flow meter glass in super small writing. I just wrote is out where I can read it in magic marker. "Center of Ball"

Well Tom. If it's an old flow meter the ball hangs a lil lower

Why would you want a flow meter to go one louder!

    Re: Tig Flow meter ball

This has been brought up in the past.

What I want to know is , do you use the top or bottom or center of gauge mark when using top, bottom or center of ball?

I use center for measuring always because most gauges I've ever used are made for mid range. Nonlinear gauges , still use center of needle/marks. Some machinists can reaptably measure down to two thousands eyeballing. I've been able to do five thousands of an inch on a good day tho
