I stick weld, and I want to get a bigger view field so it's easier to see what I'm doing. I would prefer a cheaper helmet with good quality than a expensive one that I don't like .

Then I would stay away from the expensive ones you don't like.... I found the HF /generic chinese ones to be decent and you can usually find them on sale for 30 bucks or so.... But I do like the HTP one I got the Striker Supreme for under a 100 bucks

Get a pipeliner with a flip down lens and an Arc One auto darkening lens.
That's what Noah used on the ark. I know. I'm so old I was there !

Cheaper is not better. Your best bet is to test drive the helmets . There is a reason why the expensive ones are better. I don't know anyone that bought a expensive one they didn't like . That's why you try before you buy.
Post your location and there maybe a member near you who's helmet you can try. Come by me and you can try my older Miller Elite. I waiting for a better rebate on the Miller clearlight models.

You'll cuss up a storm if you get a static lens, have to flip it down while holding the rod in the right spot. Get an auto dark hood. The HF lower priced ones are "OK" but you can't see real well out of them unless you're in quite a bit of light.

When mine died, I got their Vulcan hood and the difference is HUGE! Still a HF hood but compares almost identically to high priced Lincoln, Miller hoods. Big lens. You can actually see what you're doing with it. It fits really, really well once you spend the time to get it adjusted to you. I have a cheater lens in mine because I have old eyes. It worked fine without but it's way better with the cheater.

A fixed lens helmet will work. It certainly won't stop you from welding. I went back to a fixed shade last year. I still use auto in the field...til it dies.

I too have the Vulcan and would recommend it highly. Where did you get the cheater lens if you don't mind. Do they only make the smaller ones ( 2 X 4 ?) and not one that would cover the whole large area?

    save phace

    http://savephace.com/Welding/EFP-Helmet

I have the high dollar one at $170 cause I don't like outside controls and do like 4 sensors but they can be had as low as $49 for the more basic AD hoods

all my other helmets including miller, jackson and htp are hanging in net in shop trailer for assistants to use or as backup in case I accidentally run over my Save phace helmet as thats about what it'd take to kill it...

net on left in front of ladder is where other helmets live now ..Save phace is on hook in helmet bag between torch cart and wall so its protected and fast at hand

I got one online somewhere and got another one at Menards. Only the 2x4's are available. No one makes them for the entire viewing area.

BTW, here are some pics of my SAVEPHACE helmet, they do have largest viewing area (the area around the lens is a fixed tint) same headgear as the Millers etc.. and they do accept a cheater lens

I'm going to have to stop by over at Savephace and see if I can demo their hoods. My 15+ year old Miller still works, but it's nowhere near as clear as a couple of newer hoods I've used.

Does this helmet have the feature that allows you to weld facing the sunlight? Like in a garage with the door open? Thank you

Same here... I've taped a cloth to the top of my hoods to drape over the back of my head before. Only some of my cheaper import hoods have a problem with the sun in front of them.

    Re: Welding Helment

I'd say it's all in the sensitivity setting of the helmet. This is my HTP Striker CSV facing direct sunlight. As you an see by the shadow, the lens hasn't darkened, so the adjustability is there.
