I was shopping for trucks, and I noticed outside of a
dealership ( behind the service department, was a stack
of new frames.) Makes me think there may have been
some sort of warranty issue.

Here is the only guy in the country that does a great job for preventing rust for those in the rust belt. Be patient he only does 2 cars/trucks a week. Takes 2.5 days to do the job. I have taken one car to him. I will take every car or truck I own from now on to him.

The cab and bed of the Ranger were almost completely
rust free. The frame was rusted all to crap.
Just the opposite of the F-250’s at my job.

DIY Rusted frame repair and oiling are discussed in depth on YouTube, Mustie1 is one site with a realistic approach. You are the only one that cam make that call, depending on your abilities and facilities. time available, and overall condition of the rest of the vehicle. Good luck!

Repairing most ladder style frames is easy enough - especially as the vehicle gets older model year wise, it's getting it down to bare frame and re-assembling it or doing it in place that makes it a serious pain. Often times when you see repairs though it's out of lack of money, usually it's an incomplete job and they're just buying some time/miles before something else gives. That ranger doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to get a solid frame for but is it worth it? Probably not. I saw an 04 or 07 ranger with 25k honest miles for $5,000 on offerup last week!

It's funny, all these advancements and most true rust prevantive is just oil. Like RV floor "technology" = osb (not even cdx) with the bottom soaked in motor oil - the weight must be proprietary lol.

Ya know...….there's still trucks out there for the picking. I bought a parts truck for next to nothing some years back.

Keep your eye on the online auctions in your area...might get lucky. All's your after is a frame.....rest of the truck is gravy if the parts interchange.

Ah the donor vehicle/machine disease, that's always how it starts. You'll soon end up with a garage/attic/shed/shop/yard full of treasure and jeff foxworthy at your curb using your place for joke inspiration... ask me how I know lol. In all seriousness though as far as looking for frames go I would think rangers would be pretty abundant - they make up about 1/3 of the old trucks around here. The survivors of the cash for clunkers programs.

I got rid of it. I would have liked to have resurrected it
but I needed safe transportation in a hurry. I also
can’t have unregistered vehicles (parts cars) in the
yard (zoning nazis). Bought a used F-150.

From those with government jobs with government compensation packages they can generally afford a new car ever 3-5 years. most don't have to think about getting long life from a car, or have any sampathy for those that do.
