    Tow behind mower

I have an old ride on mower that doesn't work, and a 22hp one that does, but it's only 44"wide deck, and I want to make an auxiliary tow behind mower to help me mow my 1.5 acre lawn. Is it a simple as just make a curved/ offset hitch thing like is shown on this picture? I would think that the trailer would want to fall in behind the vehicle in spite of the hitch being offset

As long as the pivot point is locked the mower will pull offset.

As long as the wheels in the rear don't swivel it will stay offset.
I have 2 of the Swisher 44" mowers and used to pull one on either side of a rider.

Seems like a lot of work for a cumbersome rig.

1.5 acres isn’t that big either
I’d look for a used zero turn or a walk behind .... build a sulky if you don’t need the exercise....

Just get a big used commercial self propelled WALK BEHIND.

You still have to keep an eye on it and control it with a remote joystick

I’d rather just sit on the friggin thing and operate it.

    Seems a lot easier.

I am partial to these. I had a summer job one year running one of these when I was a kid. 100 inches per pass.

I used to own a 40 foot Shattuck reel mower. Covered one acre per minute.

This is a pic of a 30 foot model.

    Re: Tow behind mower

My scrap yard built decks are 60" and 48" and coupled separately to a 42" mower cut 7ft. and 8ft. The couplings are old steering shaft u-joints as they allow very tight radius turns while keeping the uncut crescents to a minimum. When both are connected to a single 42" mower, they cut 12ft. but my turning radius drops a little. Oh and by the way the 60" deck will also mount under the tractor it is coupled to if I unbolt the motor and the four 5/8" threaded rods that are used to attach it to the four wheel frame.

The guy running that thing needs to be walking behind it.

A trailer will track off side, That is a shopping cart, It wants to follow center behind you. Only that frail pin mechanism holds it on the right. Seems pretty fragile to track off side.

I have a wife to mow with a 42" deck. I bought a new John Deere tractor 32 years ago, I haven't mowed since. Mrs. seems to enjoy it.

Bought her hers some years back. Looked out the window, and she was pushing the little mower in 100+ heat. Dropped what I was doing, and we went to Tulsa that very afternoon, and brought it home. Been a good little riding mower.

Belt slips a bit, and comes off. The one to the transaxle. Never happens when I run it, but she can kill it in about 5min.

Ordered a new belt, and it's been sitting in the pickup for a few weeks. She expects it to be on the mower by Thursday. ("and not just ON the seat") How well that gal knows me

It works...here's my take on the issue. I had great intentions of adding a cylinder to make the hitch swing hydraulically, which I still think would make the unit much handier for trimming and maneuverability. Never got time to finish it - ended up selling the whole setup and buying a 6' front mount mower.

they are stupid simple, and effective. my brother runs one to the side of his garden tractor and got a backup in case the other goes down. about 3acres of lawn.

i still think i'm faster with a 6 foot finish mower behind my boomer24 tractor. one day we'll put them head to head. i'm win no matter what due to the ease and plush ride, not to mention the beverage holder. he spills his beer every time looking back at the damn thing to be sure he dont take out the wifes garden.

We have his and hers Cub Cadets, Hers is 46" for the lawns, and mine is 50" for the field work. Sometimes we tandem mow the fields.

In the meantime, I have a small area in my backyard that needs tending, but a string trimmer is all I need to take care of my lawn. If someone is looking for a good string trimmer, I can recommend you the review on https://homendgarden.com/best-cordless-string-trimmer/. I have BLACK+DECKER string trimmer and I think it's a great garden tool.
I have the dewalt listed in that review and it has been every bit and then some of a time saver and get r done than I had ever expected. I got it as a combo deal with a leaf blower. This was my first or second dewalt 20v purchase and now I have many different dewalt 20v max tools. I won’t go back to gas powered garden tools. Heck I even got the little chain saw and am quite pleased with it.

What's the reason for offset mowing?
