Lincoln 140 mig

Hi All, quick question. I have a 120v Lincoln 140 and it’s worked great. I’ve noticed a few things I need clarity on. At times the mig handle can get hot then just stop working? Is this a protective feature in the handle? If I’m welding a lot or in corners where more heat build up occurs or just welding a steel planter box the handle stops working. I have to turn off the machine and wait up to 20 minutes before I can weld again.

Also I’ve noticed during welding there aren’ many positions you can set the gun down without the trigger accidentally being pressed. You either need to hang it over something and what I tend to do often is just wedge it between the handle on top the machine. What I’ve notice this puts stress on the cord and twists it slightly and causing the trigger to malfunction. I had to take apart the handle and reposition the wire ends where the spring is for the trigger that makes the circuit to operate the welder.

Any thoughts on these items??

That's what you need. I made one out of some scrap, this one's better. You can move it around.

I have a Lincoln 135 Plus and have never had the problem you're asking about no matter how hard I run it. I'm guessing something needs to be fixed but that knowledge is beyond my pay grade. You can email Lincoln and sometimes they give good advice, other times not so much. Or call your local welding supplier that repairs Lincolns.

All that being said, my local Lincoln repair shop told me my 135 Plus was built stouter than today's 140's so maybe that plays into it.

I am with JD1. I have the Lincoln 180. I love the hell out of it...Mine does get hot at times, but that is when i am really pushing the Duty Cycle, so to me it is like a "check engine" light...or time to grab another beer...Either way it works. Yes go by HF and grab one of those, or make one (that's what i did) Also careful just laying the gun around, especially if the ground is still hooked up..It could arch, or even worse.....
