    Starwars R2D2 Droid art project

    Howdy mates,

This is on request, N2 spotted another project I fumbled together in the background of another thread.
A personal interpretation of the R2D2 droid (lotsa droids in that universe)
This is what I fumbled together,

Everything was cleaned, cut and pre-fit outdoors at the wonderful pitchblack stonecold winter. Borrowed my pears garage to weld it together. (Additional grinding back to outside)

Wanted some cool textures so decided to reshape a rim.

Split it, turned the halfs the same way to achieve a roundish shape.

Starting to get some legs together.
In case you wonder about the ball bearings it is for the cranks that you can adjust the angle of the legs. Also so you can choose to have either two OR three feets. (The middle one is retractable to the inside of the bulk)

The hatches around the head. This particular one will get a lens from one of those things Sherlock Holmes holds in his hand all the time (Not the opium pipe) but I cant find the word in my lacking vocabulary right now.

The intention is to put a big screen projector casting stuff through the hole. (Like loop the rebel message from princess Leia asf, pherhaps the Star wars original trilogy)

Oh this hatch is obviously intended to have hinges like all the other ones.

Hmm wrong pic, thought I'd show you a pic for scale but this is cut down, I put it in just to see if our mate "eagle eye" N2 Welding discovers something else peeping over from behind my right shoulder
Nevermind the bald fatass, thats me leaning on R2D2, will try to upgrade the pic

    Hope you enjoy

I'm doing yardwork at the moment so pics are really hard to distinguish on my cell phone and poor little objects vision. I'll give it a go and see if I cant figure it out later this evening when I settle down for the day. Raiders are losing atm :/. Oh anyway. I'm sure some one else will come in here and guess before I get a chance to look at it on a bigger screen. Now back to the grindstone for me.

Well after looking at your picture on the big screen and trying to determine what the sculpture behind your right sholuder could be the only thing that comes to mind would be something from Bioshock but that's my best guess.

I like how you planned ahead and left room for motorized wheels in the feet. It don't take getting rich to get a garage but one mans rich is another mans poor so I feel you there. I'll let you do your thing on this one and enjoy the show. I always find my self coming up with good idea's but this is your art piece and I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see where you go with it. I like any thing Star Wars and have seen every one of the movies at least twice or three times but with my memory I could watch them 10 times and still not be able to remember every thing LOL. Keep up the great work. If not already then hopefully some day you will have your own musium of show pieces and get the charge the entry fee's. The sky's the limit. Keep your dreems of being rich alive but don't ever tell yoru self it's not in reach because it is.

Thanks Southpaw, I appreciate your kind feedback. I have no doubts you can do much better stuff mate! And nope, I have not seen his art but thanks for the tip mate, I will search around and see if I can find his creations?

Haha, yeah it is from the newer Star Wars movies the best thing about them that small ball droid "BB8" I think its named. The scene where i breaks out the lighter/torch to illustrate "thumbs up" is genius and the highlight after everything after the original trilogy.
Oh man, thank you mate but for the other part I don't ever see any coin raining down on me. Just do this because I need too create, and for me it really is a need such as breathing and eating. (Between us it was so bad last weeks that I ate every second day and sold stuff like the studded winter tires to my car asf because I needed dough because I ran out of art supplies stuck on different art projects.) Yeah the dreams of making a living or even breaking even, is so not in my universe. But I feel good inside doing this and seeing the people discovering my art cracking up in to smiles and getting an urge to create themselves. All worth it Hmm I shouldnt be this straightforward because I realize it may give the impression I'm "quirky", but on the other hand I really don't want to lie either so eff it, I eat that part.
