ProTig 205 Coupon Out...

As part of the Harbor Freight SEMA coupon pack, HF has published a coupon for the ProTig 205 ($899; regularly $999) that is valid until 11/24/19, although the welder is not currently shown on their website as my posting this. I see this as a sign they want to get the unit in stores/on sale before Black Friday to take advantage of the Holiday/Christmas shopping season and not wait until early 2020.

There is also a copy of the coupon on the HFDB coupon site.

I am aware that the previous discussions indicated a January 2020 release; but the coupon expiring in 2-weeks would say it will be here sooner...

i asked the rep how the sale would be handled.you can pay for it now and be in line for the first shipments or do the same in the store.

Nice, I've been waiting with anticipation for the 205 to come out.

Hopefully they didn't cheapen it up all to hell in the lawsuit design change.

this is what concerns me too.i have the original protig200 and it's been great,just wondering about the 205 as it only has 3 months warranty now!

They don't look the same to me. The old Protig 200 had 2 dials and a LED 7 segment display. The new Protig 205 looks to have an LCD screen, 1 knob and 2 buttons, similar to the OmniPro. I'd like to see the full stats on the machine, not too much info on the Coupon. Might be the same guts, that I don't know.

Yes it has an LCD menu screen with two buttons to scroll through the menu. The dial is for fine adjustment where needed. All of the peripherals are the same including the foot control. All needed is your bottle of gas. Apparantly the 205 means it puts out 5 more amps than the old one. These are all new internals.

Seems HF is really stepping up on all thier products. This new welder line has probably taken a big market chunk away from other brands including the big boys. I assume even the plasmas will steal some thunder being everything is priced decent and it backed by a storefront. I have never used any of this new line, it will be curious to see how big a hit they are.

Here's the only info I have been able to find on this forum:

from what i've been told,pre and post flow are adjustable,possibly wider range on pulse,high frequency start and "advanced functions" whatever that means.
read on their ordering system that it still has 1 year free trial warranty but the sales people said only 90 days!

I would venture they put the coupon out to get pre-delivery orders. It allows them a number of units to build (plus extras) to reduce the financial risk in production.

For example, if I know that I have 'sold' 1000 units (even if they are rain checks or havent been paid), then my first order for the factory will be less risky and allows me to negotiate better terms with my supplier as well as any short term loans.

Speculation on my part...there may also be tax advantages for buyers to pre-order in December for end of year capital purchases...just not sure how that works with something not delivered until the next tax year.

hf has issued coupons before product was available in the past.they did it for the vulcan series and are also doing it for the icon brand.
i think previous post clarifies it pretty well.

just picked up the 205 they are honoring the sema coupon. i had the 200 for over two years and not a problem so dont anticipate any from this one either. ill update any issues after i use it for few weeks.
