    Turntable on Rollers With Track

I grabbed this turntable and three sections of track from a sandblast shop this morning.

The turntable is 1/4” x 30” diameter with 1/2” holes for bolting fixtures. Sealed bearings on turntable and the four rollers.
It has a rated capacity of 750 pounds and weighs 90 pounds.

The turntable unit itself sits flat on the floor or welding table (rollers do not engage the flat surface) and as such can be used for rotation only without the benefit of linear travel.

Lots of options available to me. I think I will make a dedicated bench for it that will allow me to clip on track extensions. This still allows me to grab the turntable and use elsewhere at variable heights with a forklift or high lift pallet jack.

    Too cool or what??!!

Pretty cool. It could actually go under /hold a small table too. Are those rods for the extensions? How do the line up?

The rods must have been for alignment for the bench they had in their blast booths. I will need to make my own latching and alignment setup.

Nothing at the moment as I just acquired the pieces.

When I figure how and where I want to set it up I can weld a tab on the track assembly to limit linear travel. I don’t think I’ll need a mechanical brake on the turntable but I’ll wait and see.

Ah man, that is slick. For a temp stop, use a C clamp, beam clamp, drill hole for bolt and nut. You know what to do, just being smart a$$.
That could really be handy. I'm glad I didn't find it.
That's slick using angle iron for track too.
I'll settle for my overhead beam with electric chainfall . Probably one of my best investments, especially now that I'm getting old.

Putting eight feet of track on my bench and motorizing the turntable was what first came to mind.......

Wow nice piece! Your shop looks too clean to be used, I can't seem to keep mine clean if I'm doing anything.

Re: Turntable on Rollers With Track

I spent a little time working on a bench for the turntable today.

The main frame on the left will be moved with the pallet jack. The 3 foot tracked extension on the right will be detachable and have a (lift off) flat work surface adjacent to the rolling turntable.

The 30 x36 inch lift off flat surface may have to be thick MDF or aluminum as a steel top may be too heavy. Haven’t figured that out yet....

    Turntable on Rollers With Track

I’m getting closer. Still need to make a removable tabletop.

A track like that would work great for loading wood in a shipping container kiln for drying wood.

That is an awesome find. Great idea for quick track alignment too.

I can't think of any specific ways it would have saved me time or hassle over just a rotary table but I definitely want 3, maybe 4 lol.

I like that industrial look of the holes punched in the channel/ibeam. Little touches like that can make something as utilitarian as a workbench look really nice. Your shop is always enviable and clean lis2323.

I was unable to find an aluminum sheet crop cheap enough so I used a piece of 1.25 inch plywood from a Starbucks coffee table and sheared up a piece of 18 gauge galvanized I had. Not my first choice but I think it will be fine for now.

You get your materials from Starbucks ???? How do you get a table out the door and loaded into your truck before the Baristas catch you?

Excellent score; and your shop is immaculate.

I do find it odd how this picture was seemingly glossed over by other members... Stainless?? Sanitary grade? Or is my mind in the gutter?

I chopped the end off some sliding arm clamps today

and welded on 1/2 inch bolts to match the holes on the rotating table.

Very nice as usual. Aren't these clamps hardened enough for you not to use the Makita LC1230 on them?

    That’s a good point. I didn’t even consider...

I should have used the abrasive chop saw or a cut off wheel.

Those of us that have drooled over Terry's shop pics for years have learned to mask our deep rooted feelings of envy and inadequacy by silently staring dumbfoundedly from the corner....
