Miller Bobcat 250 NT Starting Issues

So I got a non running Miller Bobcat 250 NT and cant seem to figure out whats going on with it.

The problems Im having is the starting switch on the front of the welder isnt working, wont turn over motor with it.
Fuel pump is not pumping gas.
    No fuel to carburetor
No 12v to the fuel shutoff solenoid to the carb.

I have confirmed that the motor cranks (jumping the starter)
The machine will start with starting fluid and gas in the carb but doesnt stay running.

I have rebuilt the carburetor and I have a new fuel pump installed on it.

I did find it odd that when I put my meter on the red wire from the fuel shutoff solenoid from the carb and to the 12v battery, it shows -10v. But no 12v when touched to ground.

Can someone help me figure out what I need to check on this?

Get a copy of owners manual using your serial #
    https://www.millerwelds.com/support/manuals-and-parts
Follow trouble shooting guide, check fuse F6
Those vacuum operated pumps take awhile to fill carb with gas. Install a marine primer bulb, this reduces crank time.

What kind of fuse is that exactly? just a regular glass 30a 32v fuse?

Go to the second window and search by model #, this will bring up a list of serial# breaks.
Fuse is Minte GI 30a, 32v

But what is a Minte GI fuze? Ive never heard of that before.

Can I just go to a autoparts store and get a 30a 32v glass fuse?

Take the old one with you. Think it's a miniature general illumination fuse.

Yea the old one is shattered and I cant get the metal ends out of the holder.
When I took the loom off the wire harness, I actually think the wire was just broke off the fuse holder as well.
So im going to have to put a new fuse holder inline with a new fuse

With that fuse being busted, would that cause the fuel cutoff solenoid on the carburetor to not have its 12v?

Is there anyway to just eleminate that solenoid on that carb? Can i remove it and just put a short bolt in its place?

Why some spend that must for a low cost fuse.

You could get the fuses at Allied Electronics or Mouser for a lot less.

Yeah i wont be spending $32 on a fuse lol
I have fuseable links in my garage, and I have fuses too. Im just going to try one of them and see if they work. Or run up to a parts store and see if they have any 30a fuses.

Am I able to eleminate that fuel cutoff soleniod on the carb at all?

You probably could, then how would you shut machine down. Like to keep things how they were designed.
Here is pic of older carb with out solenoid. You would need correct plug. It's easy to test solenoid.

All that solenoid does is eliminate backfire while the engine is coasting to a stop by plugging the main jet. Just cut the plunger off the solenoid, problem solved.

Re: Miller Bobcat 250 NT Starting Issues

So the fuse thing did fix my starting issue. So I appreciate that.

    It does crank over now.
I just cant figure out now why my fuel pump wont pull any fuel up the fuel line now. Im on my 2nd brand new pump now and still nothing.

I have unplugged the line from the fuel pump that goes to the engine and there is pressure there, but still no fuel to the carb. Even unplugged the line from the carb and tried cranking with no
fuel coming out of the fuel pump.

Any idea what is going on here?

Check fuel cap, line from tank plugged. Make sure tank is clean. Some times I use 2 cycle oil mix in my lawn mower, have noticed this creates solids in tank and can clogg the fuel line. I Put the marine bulb primer pump to shorten the crank time. Just use primer bulb to fill carb bowl.

Re: Miller Bobcat 250 NT Starting Issues

    what about the fuel cap?

I did check the fuel line, there clean. Can blow through them. Has a full tank of fuel
One thing that I have noticed is that the fuel line going into the fuel tank doesnt stay. I dont know
if the thing is worn out, but it doesnt stay in the hole in the tank.

What should I do about that? Maybe plastic JB weld it? lol

Re: Miller Bobcat 250 NT Starting Issues

The tank needs to vent some how to let fuel out, so is the cap venting. Depending of what kind of material the tank is made of would determine what will bond to it. They make fuel tank repair puddy. You can also plastic weld it, with a Harbor Freight plastic welding kit. The line going into the tank is it siphoning from the bottom. With the marine primer pump you test this out. Post pic of tank fitting.

Re: Miller Bobcat 250 NT Starting Issues

Curenttly the cap isnt on at all. The tank is plastic.
I was thinking about just gettind plstic JB weld and doing it that way to fix that.

I dont have a primer pump yet but will be getting one. I can tell you though that the fuel is pulled from the bottom of the tank. is has a line that goes in to the bottom and the tank is fuel.
Just for some reason the fuel pump doesnt seem to want to work.

Now to eleminate the carb causing an issue, I did put an auxillary tank on the welder. Put a little starter fluid in carb and she starts up and stays running (even though it wont idle down for some reason)

Re: Miller Bobcat 250 NT Starting Issues

Is your fuel line in the tank cut off square and when you push it into the bottom of the tank, are you pushing it down so far that it is shutting off the end of the line against the bottom of the tank?

oh no it isnt being blcoked. The pipe that goes in the tank is cutoff at an angle too. But Ive measured it as well and it looks to be just the right length.

I dont know. I just dont understand why the fuel pump isnt pulling fuel.

Check all the lines to the pump, are the clear and not clogged. Are they cracked especially the one going to the block. Are they connected to the correct ports.

Re: Miller Bobcat 250 NT Starting Issues

Are you positive all the hoses are in their proper place on the pump. You realize if the in and out hoses are reversed it will just be pumping air into the tank. Since you now have an auxillary tank gravity feeding the carb buy some extra fuel hose so you can stick each hose into an open container of water to see which is pumping water out. If neither does then you need to install new hose between the pump and the crankcase connector. If you get it working then pump a little gas thru it to flush out the water before reconnecting the pump to the engine.
