LOL..and of course they have a gofund me page set up...they are full of schit they are displaced..they have homeowners insurance and just tarp the roof till its fixed, and the neighbors insurance will also cover, since this was not an " act of god" like a tree falling on the house...

Agree on the Gofundme page which have gotten out of hand. Talk about a great idea that's being abused. Also, you can bet they have had 10 lawyers call them by now and before all is said and done, they will sue for mental anguish and PTSD.

I just watched the video, that house is huge, why would they have to sleep else where...they are hoping for a big payday through go fund me and as you said ptsd and every other disorder they can find to fit....

my compressor is bolted into the cement floor with lag bolts and the steel feet isolated with thick rubber pads so it doesnt vibrate...but I think with enough force to launch that tank, the bolts would let loose too...

Knew a guy that did something like this in the late 80's, blew a 6'x6' hole in his concrete block garage wall. 120PSI ruptured the vertical seam in the tank. If it hadn't happened at 2 AM somebody could have been hurt.

Old thread from last year that was dug up. Although, I appreciate the reminder and revisiting the thread. Yeah the guy that made the hot water heater tank hold compressed air is rather dumb. I remember reading this thread back last year and watching that video. Air compressor tanks are no joke. Compressors, motors, and lines are not the problem so much as the tanks. I retired my 20gal tank last Fall after seeing too much rust inside it to be comfortable. When I got it the unit had not been taken care of to begin with (had water in it). I used it for intermittent use for projects for a couple years with no problems. However, I got to using it a lot last year and when I went to drain the water from the tank I got quite a lot so I decided to check further. I stuck a bore scope in the tank and didn't like what I saw. Yeah, some kind of non-destructive x-ray measuring of the tank wall thickness would be a more accurate way to measure how solid the tank is, but I'd rather just call it safe and not use it. The temporary tank is a new one from harbor freight - one of their 11 gallon "portable air tanks" with the compressor plumbed in to it. The replacement/upgrade will be a 60gal/5hp 2 stage, hopefully. There is a chance I may opt for an 80gal but with the CFM limitation being the output of the compressor driven at a given RPM with a given HP motor the tank size is irrelevant to how much air the unit can sustain once the pressure hits the start up pressure (IE - running a cut off wheel - if the pressure hits the low pressure start point then the CFM that runs the cut off wheel will hold at what the output of the compressor is, but the larger the tank volume the longer the run time before the pressure switch trips the motor/compressor to run). There is, also, a a difference between the hardware store variety 60gal/5hp compressor that weighs 300lbs and a quality 60gal/5hp compressor that weighs 700lbs. Think tank construction... Thicker metal adds up fast.
