    Starting mobile rig

Howdy all, I知 not a licensed welder but work in agriculture and use one often. Been kicking around the idea of starting a mobile rig doing mainly ag related repairs along with building pipe fence. I知 not where I need to be yet in order to charge folks. My question is broad but, what boxes or criteria should I be able to meet in order to pull the trigger on starting a little rig?
    Thanks in advance!

If you're going to do this as a side job... Start CHEAP. My first rig was a '79 GMC 2500 4x4 that was my daily driver too. I built a skid that would take a set of camper jacks so I could put it in or out in a hurry and go to work on Monday. I had a second hand Lincoln G-6 Weldanpower 225 that got it done. Had a bare minimum of tools and grinders but I got my name out. That was in the early 80's doing contract irrigation work. After that...

The only time you need a license is welding on buildings and fencing.

Thanks Dave. Is that just for residential fencing?

You would need to check your state contractor board, I am in California.
But most states is not bad as California.

If I only did repair I would made more money. Most building work is quoted with lots of rules it takes the fun out of welding.
