What material is this gasket?
Bit off topic but you guys seem to know this stuff...
Trying to source this foam rubber gasket that’s on here. It’s a 3M foam adhesive on the back, not sure what to call the front though?
Thanks

Re: What material is this gasket?
Not sure what that material is. A very good place to start your search would be with McMaster-Carr. They have a lot to look through.

Re: What material is this gasket?
Neoprene? Buna N? Delrin? UHMW polyethelene?
Whats it for?
The fiber one looks like G10 or phenolic.

The yellow substrate does look like kevlar to me also... the foamy part looks just like some high heat rated sponge rubber sheet I use on the casting machines... can't remember where it came from but I don't think it's anything too special...

The preeminent [1st & 2nd] rules in my shop . . .
You have to bring - 'all the pieces/parts' - and you
have to 'tell me everything' . . .
What do you have - and what does it do?

Re: What material is this gasket?
Kevlar might make sense since it is abrasion resistant and long wearing.

Re: What material is this gasket?
For the black part, try searching "expanded neoprene" or "closed cell neoprene", and solid neoprene.

Re: What material is this gasket?
Opus, if I am not mistaken, that is the face piece regulator of a fire dept self contained breathing apparatus. The wearer has a polycarbonate face shield, and the regulator attaches to the face shield with a 1/8th to 1/4 turn cam engagement. That gasket seals the interface between the two. I could be wrong however since it has been 30 years since I actually used one of those.

If that's what it is - the gasket is probably not asbestos ?

This is correct yes.

Re: What material is this gasket?
Kevlar is also heat resistant.

I highly doubt it. Back in the 1970's and 80's when I was a firefighter, we did indeed have asbestos gloves and blankets. But one of the government agencies (EPA? OSHA?) brought the hammer down hard on asbestos in 1989 I believe.

Re: What material is this gasket?
It's a teflon coated fabric. I think the fabric is fiberglass but it might be something like nylon also. Used in composite manufacturing as a release film so the epoxy or whatever doesn't stick to the molds. Probably used here as it is tough and low friction.

Again - what are going to use this for . . . ?
Gasket Producers: are a 'third tier underground' OEM
supplier to a plethora of Industries.
They know all materials - and have 'inny & outty' dies
'in all shapes' to cut your need . . .
They are not: 'a walk in the door job shop' - if you want

If you are really nice - they will gift you enough material
to get rid of you - so you can 'Beaver the Part' at home.

Re: What material is this gasket?
You can make a punch put pipe or other tubing it does not need to be hardened for one time uses or you buy a punch up to 4"
