What’s it worth? Are they problematic? I’m a strictly stick welder. Ive used mig but I’m more capable with stick. Can I maybe run hard facing wire with this unit?

Bottom line is a guy owes me about a grand and is asking if I’ll take this in trade. It looks new inside. Said he barely used it didn’t care for using his machine to run the mig unit and bought a 220 Miller unit.

Looks pretty new he is getting me pictures of the data plate and such as well as the face. He had showed it to me some time ago but I wasn’t super interested in it. I usually don’t do horse trading. I prefer cash money in most cases. I’m not against trading I just want to be sure it’s worth at minimum the bill I have outstanding for him at the moment is all.

Using this type takes more there are no name plates whit settings.
This type I used for over 30 years and had make the setting chart.
It will be a pain

If not done must mig welding you look for a machine with setting chart.

Do you have a power source with CV output? If not, it'll never run right, unless running really heavy MIG.

Going by prices over here, it's probably worth a grand at least though. If it all works fine and cleans up nicely, it should sell ok. But it needs to be worth MORE than $1k to make it worth your while.

If I can’t find a money saving/making use for it I need to get at least Whats owed to me out of it. If I can run hardfacing wire vertical with it then it will be well worth it I think. I still haven’t looked into that much though lol

I run a 2019 Lincoln ranger 225 it actually has a setting for running a suit case welder, and exactly my thought. If I can’t find a money saving/making use for it I need to get at least Whats owed to me out of it. If I can run hardfacing wire vertical with it then it will be well worth it I think. I still haven’t looked into that much though lol

I will post a few thoughts on the matter. "Around a thousand dollars" has two sides to it. I don't know which side you find yourself on. The only reason I say that is to help understand value, because the Ln 25 is also worth "around a thousand dollars". I can't tell you if it will be a moneymaker for you or not. I can't even tell you if it will run hardfacing wire vertical, because there is a wide variety of hardfacing wires. I do have some experience with a few of those. But as far as the suitcase itself, it is not very difficult to learn to use it. I would suggest looking up the specs for the wire you wish to use, consider the published values, and set the wire speed that gives you an amperage value that seems reasonable for the thickness of steel to be welded. Then set the voltage to what the data calls for. Tweek it from there. My experience is that a feeder is a tremendous asset. I used to stick weld everything in the field also. I started realizing the benefits of using a dualshield for mobile work, and it has changed my approach. Today stick welding out in the field is my last option, although I still do some, particularly for small repairs. But only you know your own overall situation, but my vote would be for the feeder.

His debt is on the lower side of the thousand $820 to be exact. Labor on the replacement of two JD 650H drive sprockets along with a small welding repair on the C frame of the same unit. He’s a good customer too. I’ve made plenty repairing his machines and poor welding. I’ve used mig in the past quite a bit. But only in a shop setting building stairs and landings mostly. I’m pulling the trigger on it and going to just see how it goes.

Around here Used they go from 600-1000. Like they said they work best on CV mode. I have 3 of them we use on our Miller Portable machines. There a reliable feeder.

Yes it worth it, a new one is about 3 grand. We looked into buying one for work. The ln25 is the most expensive, the miller is a little less. we bought the Profax which looks like a miller clone for about 2 grand.
Had been using my old beat up Hobart hefty that cost me $50.00 plus 75.00 for a contactor. Been using NR211 wire .035
If you do not like the gun on it, replace it with a bernard like this one, look for one with a Lincoln back end.

I wouldn't pay over $600 for it, even with a whip. Part of it depends on the gun. If the gun is heavily built enough to run in spray mode all day long then maybe.

Ironworkers use suitcase welders on high steel. Welders use them in remote areas like under a building. I wouldn't mind owning one but I don't do that kind of work anymore.

Times are tight right now, things are hard to sell. It's very hard to tell how much use that machine has had.
